As title... we’ve got loads of Poppys in our winter Barley this year, could it have been in the seed? Only thing I’ve done different this year is sumoed instead of ploughing a seed bed, could it be that?
Cheers!

What herbicides have you applied? Does your seed bank have a natural population of Poppies?

Herbicides applied were, liberator(flufenacet, diflufenican)with the first application of cypermethrin, than a second of spigot(fenpropimorh) with another cypermethrin and a 3rd of prompt(mecoprop-P, dicamba) obviously with fungicides thrown in.

Spigot is a fungicide.
Poppies are moderately susceptible to Prompt, but (not knowing the specifics of your land and weed burdens) I’d have gone with a more broad spectrum herbicide such as Ally Max or more likely Zypar.

We’ve never had issues with poppies before, I was wandering if it was because we didn’t plough this year?

Do you have an agronomist?
If so ask him why he didn’t pick up on it in the spring when you could have sprayed them.

If it’s a field by the road tell him you are going to put a big sign saying Agronomy Services by “Bill Smith”, poppy lover :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

We’ve had this problem before. On the sandy soils we moved away from liberator. The poppies managed to survive, then were too big for the spring herbicides.

weve got some creeping in from the rewilding effects of the bloody council and there latest policy of sowing verges and grassy junctions with wild flower mix ,this is to avoid cutting them but the number of thistles and dandelions encroaching will mean somebody will !!!
