Advice Required ,thinking of growing grass for a local dairy farmer , we sow the mix he requires and slurry and fertilize , he mows ,teds, rakes and forages it , and pays by the ton ,what would be a fair tonnage price cheers in advance.

Your supplying all the inputs , he's does the harvest and carting away ?
The isue could be if your selling fresh weight will be all over the place due to weather at time of harvest ,I've been selling silage grass years but would never sell per ton
For an idea on price , some farmers around here are paying upwards of £200 acre and covering all costs

On NAAC contracting costs all in mow, rake, harvest (3 trailers) and clamp its £191/hectare.
3 cuts £573
12 ton DM/ hectare that’s £47.75/ ton contracting cost. Add on an extra trailer or 2 depending on distance to dairy call it £50/ton.

Worth £120-£150 per ton DM depending on quality. So £70-£100 per ton Dry Matter.

11.5me plus 15%protein higher end
10.5me 12%protein lower end

Based off dry matter gives a fair representation for both parties, if they need it dry your not getting a reduced weight, if it’s a short weather window a wetter they aren’t getting robbed for water

John Deere self propelled can have harvest lab option which measures yield and drymatter. Fairest way would be to,pay per tonne of drymatter. I have purchased a standing crop of whole crop wheat this way.

Why not just rent it to the farmer for the duration you want the field to be in grass on a per acre basis and let them worry about the rest? You could include fertiliser and slurry in with it.
If you sell by the ton, it really all needs to go over a weighbridge and have accurate moisture testing etc done to work out dry matter tons.
Not sure I'd trust the read out on a forager, but some seem to.
