Puma rattley sound

Have just received a new to me 2009 puma 155, nice tractor went up and looked at it couldn’t see anything wrong with it bar a few little things like the pto seal and a lower link sensor both of which have been repaired. I’ve just had a bit of a drive round at home and it now seems to be making a bit of a sound from the back end, almost like a tinkling sound. Only does it while moving. Any ideas? Not sure how it would’ve developed any faults between me looking at it and getting it on the lorry! Almost sounds like dragging a small chain behind only a lot quieter if that makes sense. Please tell me it’s not immediately blown up the gearbox or something…

Front axle driveshaft bearings, if they are the same as the blue ones ! Have a look underneath where the driveshaft comes out of the gearbox

Might be worth checking and looking at the steel bands thar hold the fuel tank in place. I've had 1 rust/rot away and causes the steel band to tap tap tap against the fuel tank. But it's never that easy and as others have said a wear point which rattles are the drive shafts

Could be that, fuel tank would maybe come off for pto seal? I expect it’s something come apart and gone back together and is now rattling

We had a similar noise from our valtra under warranty. Fitters came out armed to split the tractor to replace the flywheel damper and it was just the bracket for the prop shaft guard not tightened up

Does it do it with 4wd engaged?

If it goes quiet driving along hard standing/road with 4wd in it will be bearing or couplers on front propshaft.

When the bearing went on front propshaft of our new Holland recently there was significant vibration.

Interesting what you say about 4wd, I was working in field and it was fine, quite steep pulling a cultivator. Came out of field turned off 4wd and was obvious something wrong.

No 4WD makes no difference, I did try that as I thought it could be the prop bearings.

It had the damper done not very many hours ago. I have all the invoices for work done to the tractor for the last few years and she’s been looked after well, that’s one thing that sold her to me!

There’s no vibration, just the sound.

Or even the washers that hold lift rods on at top
It’s probably (hopefully) something like that! I expect it’s that classic new machinery thing where you’re listening out for everything that could be wrong with it. I’ve had a couple of bad blowups this year so I’m a bit skittish really. Mechanic coming to look at it in the morning to make sure it’s nothing bad then on dung spreading so fingers crossed! I’m just paranoid it’s a bearing deep in the gearbox gone wrong and a several thousand pound bill awaits…

My mechanic is pretty certain it is the 4WD bearing. The tin sheild on it has detached and is rattling round making the noise. Dealer should be covering the cost of repair hopefully so not the end of the world, but a bit of a pain as was looking forward to using my new tractor! Fingers crossed that is all thats wrong with it. I'm glad I had someone look at it before just driving on, just shows it pays to listen out for noises out of the ordinary!
