Looks a bit like it has got some Dandie in it?
Little Kev is of lhasa apso/Bichon/Yorkie mix and his fur is a magnet for all sorts of undesirable cling-ons, so he has to go to the local hair dresser now and again for a trim. Yes he is ’dandie’ but he does his best with the cattle and sheep.

I went to a job last week where a customer had caught a squirrel in a cage but had no idea what to do with it, if live trapping ensure you have the means or ability to end its suffering quickly.

This poor squirrel was right on deaths door when I picked up the cage, likely from starvation/dehydration.

easiest method is tip the rat from the cage into a sandbag/feed bag, work out where the head is and give it a swift tap with a hammer handle or similar.

this method doesn’t fall you foul of the wildlife and countryside act, especially on a forum that is open to all and sundry to read.

failing the above method ring around local gunshops for an old break barrel air rifle, someone will have something gathering dust in the back for a tenner

I have never seen a gunshop having anything for a tenner!

Wouldn't try that with a freshly caught one , they go mental in a trap and the chances of getting your fingers chewed are quite high.
Second suggestion much better, but make sure you have plenty of pellets as they dodge them .
It's also illegal to release a grey squirrel in the UK

I’ve used a sandbag and priest for years on squirrels, I lay it on the floor and restrict the space in the sandbag with my boot so they are in one corner and then use the priest, but agreed, they are nasty barstewards!
