Well our antibiotic use is fairly low as we do a lot of vaccinating but still had to be all signed off by our vet...next year I’ll have to go on the injecting course  Where will it end

On one of the farm businesses we run, we hadn't purchased any antibiotics for the year. RT insisted we got the vet to sign the paperwork to say how we could reduce our antibiotic use !! :banghead::banghead: f**king knobs !!

@Hfd Cattle there is plenty of support for you on Facebook.

Also Andrew Jones from Denbighshire has his inspection delayed indefinitely as the inspector was elderly. Some ammo for you.

No problem with a RT visit here.

Just so long as inspector provides a copy of his/her biosecurity record wears appropriate ppe has proof they haven’t been in contact with anyone infected and realise they won’t be allowed in buildings, house, office or be able to touch anything etc.
You'd need to see their written record of hand washing for the past 12 months, and which brand of soap they've used. All signed and dated.

I was thinking of devising a 'pre-examination' document with about 100 tick box questions with questions like ...when did you last disinfect ,what product did you use , was it liscensed,if so where is the evidence etc etc for the RT inspector to fill in before getting out of the vehicle .....make them feel the same as we do for their raft of unnecessary questions !
On the issue of vets we are currently on the last of 3 herd annual tests .the vet was very helpful and understanding and did all the work at the business end of the race and all I had to do was keep the cattle coming at the back . We were never closer than about 5 m . He then disinfected the parts of the race that he had been in contact with and any gate handles etc and then told me to stay away on Fri when he reads them as he will manage all I have to do is get them ready for him !!
You can't ask for better than that !!

Must admit I was thinking we ought to have a set of site rules which folks coming onto farm who I don’t know have to agree to. It’s ok inspectors wanting to see cattle etc but they can be dangerous and shouldn’t really have people near them who I don’t know and trust to be switched on!

our feed rep is no longer going on farm, semen reps similar, vets only as necessary, so RT should do the same, unless of course, they have self isolated for 14 days, and are willing to accept liability if someone on farm catches it.

Top work by the vet mentioned above, common sense practical approach as you would expect.
Lets produce a standard 10 page checklist for RT to complete before we’ll consider allowing an inspection.
It needs evidence of risk assessment course’s they have been on , hand washing etc. etc.
Has anyone operated on a modern regulated building site ? The requirements are endless.
As a start if you are selling grain for example tell the buyer there will be no sticker with the load as you are suspending the scheme and see the reaction.
Please post it on here.

Farm Assurance

Please note that Red Tractor recently confirmed that farm assurance audits will continue for the time being, however they are evaluating methods of doing remote assessments as it has been confirmed that certification cannot be maintained if minimum monitoring can’t be done.

COVID-19: Position on Red Tractor Farm, Market, Collection Centre, Haulier Schemes

We’re facing the greatest health crisis in a generation. During the next few months, the core foundations that hold the UK together will be tested – food production being one of them.
Shoppers are relying on farmers, food companies and the wider industry to continue as normal wherever possible and, at the time of writing, that is what Red Tractor intends to do.
We’ve been working closely with our certification bodies to ensure they have systems in place to protect the health of our members and their assessors, whilst protecting the integrity of the Scheme and ensuring we can continue to provide consumers and customers with the reassurance they expect from us.

Red Tractor policy throughout this time has and will continue to follow Government guidelines.

We are confident that our certification bodies have implemented additional protocols to ensure that when an assessment goes ahead, both the member and the assessor are following the Government guidelines.

This means that:

• Members will be contacted before an arranged assessment to allow the assessor to check that they are not in self isolation, • At the time of the proposed assessment, the assessor has not knowingly come into contact with anyone who has tested positive for Covid-19 or has been in contact with anyone who has visited restricted countries within the last 14 days. • Members will be asked if the site/farm has any specific control measures the assessor needs to comply with. • The assessor will also explain the additional measures that will be put in place including additional protective clothing, maintaining physical distance, avoiding the farmhouse and additional sanitising.

Where both the member and assessor mutually agree, then the Red Tractor assessment will take place.

Where assessments cannot take place until a later date, in order to maintain certification to the Red Tractor scheme, there will be a requirement for the certification body to carry out a remote assessment. This is in accordance with UKAS requirements.

We are at this time working with our certification bodies to determine what these will look like and the consequences for our members in each sector. Certification bodies will confirm this to those members affected and we will provide more details on our website when they are available.

For pig members – our position as at the time of writing is that Quarterly Vet visits should continue wherever possible, and where both the member and the vet mutually agree it is safe to do so. We are in close liaison with the Pig Veterinary Society (PVS) and considering options for instances where it is not possible for the vet visit to go ahead. Further information on this will be provided in the near future when we have fully considered the options.
