What rat bait are people having success with? Currently feeding both of Mole Valley's own brand wheat based poisons to my rat population and they seem to still be very much alive! I'm worried about using bait blocks as we have two spaniels and the neighbours Jackrussell loose about the yard.

Massive demand for these traps at the moment ! I’m guessing it because poisons ate harder to buy now but they must be effective?

i’m going to get one to try I think - if we could go poisonless it would be one less thing to have to satisfy red tractor on ?? and certainly safer re none target species

we have had more success with mouse traps than poison so this might be a good solution

We had a big rat problem so get some tyres and place them round the farm tilted on a stone near rat areas put a lid across the top bit of ply wood feed normal cow sheep feed in them for a week or so till there visiting it every night to feed and when your sure there eating lots then change to wheat based poison but keep feeding every day lots untill they stop eating you find you hit them hard that way only way I find to get enough poison in to a large colony quickly enough to wipe them out to give you an idea I fed 10kgs in one station over 4 days last week they just stopped taking it and bodies are appearing

It all depends on active ingredients as with most chemically based treatments!! Some work on certain populations and not on others etc!!

They work well as long as you check daily and remove your last victim, as dead rats scare others off for a day or two!!

seem to remember a TFF thread about these a while back where the general consensus was that they were useless? Might have mis-remembered though!

we seem to be selling loads on Farm Marketplace at the moment but I guess that’s no real measure of how well they work

I do like the idea on not using poisons on the farm at all if possible though with none target species and pets about

can’t hurt to try one....... will see if I can get a freebie sample out of Lucy ! ! (wish me luck !,)

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
