Rat bait

Jaguar bait blocks. No success whatsoever. They're just not eating the stuff.:scratchhead:
Mine never take the jaguar either. Guy i know shreds it and mixes it with wheat. Reckons it works. I tend to use whole grain alternating between diffenacoum and bromadialone.
Bait was disappearing all the time through autumn, and I've caught loads in fenn traps. Our neighbour has some wild bird cover next door and I think they've been breeding in that all summer.
Had some bromadialone wax blocks for mice and they were munching them like they were chocolate . I reckon there was some resistance. So I used some mouse traps and also switched to some brodifacoum paste that seems to have cleared them up.
Nothing more satisfying than setting a trap in a new run and finding a dead rodent the next day.

Tidy the place up as far as possible first. Remove as much shelter and also access to water as far as you can. A tidy farm is far less attractive to vermin of all kinds.

Then get the local air gun team in. Stack a few bales in the centre of the yard and let the guys lie on top with night sights. Plink plink and its game over.

Even better, buy your own, all tax deductible and many hours of fun. Try and find somewhere shelterd for your shooting, it makes it much more enjoyable... :)

Bait your chose target location for a few days first, paste or a peanut butter/nutella type product, so the rats get used to stopping there licking at the bait...

I've had a friend of mine who's involved in our syndicate shoot controlling rats the last couple of Saturdays.
2 of them with good pellet guns and night sights, shot 27 the first night and about 20 2nd time. We have a maize clamp at the back of the farm which is the ideal food supply for rats! Most of the rats are dug into the hedge at the back of the farm also, the farm is reasonably tidy.
Very satisfying to see them shot, at night you can stand in the yard look round with the night sights and they are sitting under a pallet say not 20 yards away thinking you can't see them.
Little do they know!

Very satisfying stuff. Not many here this time, but very little grub about the yard... Shot a lot through the summer/autumn though, mainly under the domestic bird feeders. :)

RT will be wanting to see your paperwork for carcase disposal.....

We have a fair few rats in the game covers, they are dug into hedge lines and will be controlled shortly.
Easy digging sandy soil were we shoot.
