Recommend me a house insurer

The House policy is due in a few weeks. We insured with someone else in 2019 but went back to NFU in 2020 as we were dealing with a claim in the adjoining yard. They've jacked up the premium 12% this time though to £985 for building and contents on a 3 bed brick bungalow.

Who else do you use and recommend?

Any alternative recommendations for the tractors (due next month) and the farm business (due May) while you're at it?

Car and pick up are due. £3,100 with NFU ( includes <25 yr old driver). Quote from Direct line £1300 for both without <25 yr old on pick up. I couldn’t believe the difference and that’s with my ‘membership’ discount.
Now looking at house and farm insurance too.
Adios NFU.

Shop around it's a pain but you'll do far better than that

Mother in laws 2 bed semi bungalow brick built 1960s
£252.29 for the building only, she did her own contents via age concern
Covered for £190k with Allianz and that's £20 down on last year premium all including the tax.
Renewed Jan this year.

Dads was with Aviva as well, only drawback they took 3 months to return premiums after the sale of his house, broker did say Aviva are probably the worst company for doing that, but they paid out straight away on a claim we had here.

Quotes from broker ,Cornish mutual and NFU.

Best quote was just about from broker , then NFU and way infront was CM.

Stuck with NFU as happy with no quibble claims and value for money.

Freind works for a large broker and they struggle to beat NFU like for like.

So lets get this right, NFU quote is with under 25yo and DL quote is without.
You're not really comparing like with like. Insurers don't like youngsters on pickups.
PS I haven't used the 'mutual' for years.

We had our renewal notice from Direct Line on Saturday for £235.00 and some odd pence (£2.00 increase on last year), 3-bed semi.

The wife used to work in an insurance brokers and says it's the best cover she could find!

We had one claim with them about 4 years ago and it couldn't have gone any smoother, very impressed with them.

I was just about to post similar. Direct Line seems to be cheap as anything for cover so it’s good to hear you have had good service.

Was quoted £130 for a 4 bed detached and £50k contents a couple of weeks ago. Seemed incredible. Ability to upgrade to even better cover for less than £200.

They are great for car insurance too! I had a quote a couple of years back for around £350.00, NFU Mutual £795.00!!!

Not being funny but your house insurance and contents are nearly a grand for a 3 bed bungalow? Is it full of millionaires toys, trinkets and jewellery or something? Ours is less than half that for a property twice the size?

£450k rebuild cover and £97k total contents. Have you ever totalled up what it would cost to replace all your house contents? Building this close to London costs £££££

When our barn burnt down in 2017 it cost £35k just to clear up!
