Red tractor consultation on standards

Firstly aplolgies. I've tried to go through the red tractor thread on the other section but it just looks like it relates to arable.

What do people think of the new standards trying to be imposed?
Fair or going over the top?
With all the data they are trying to get why aren't they setting up a portal that we can go in every day and fill in. With bar code thing recording te products we use daily and automatically logging them to the required fields?
Who is the dairy farmer that sits on the red tractor board representing farmers?
Is it just me or has everybody else found the online portal really crap to use?
Did anybody fill in the farmers weekly poll it said 56% of farmers were in favour. I never seen the poll asking for opinions any where and had a check last night. While the online poll here has 5%.

We've all spent sigificant amounts on set up and systems. While putting unaccountable assesors or standards bodies incharge of potentially putting businesses out of business without even any come back or regulation. Has anybody actually complained about assesments and what have red tractor done about it. It looks like they do very little.

I do realise we as dairy farmers need standards and high welfare systems to placate concernsof customers. How far do we go down this road and where is it going to lead? We are potentially just about to sign a trade deal with countries that opens up £10 billions of custom. With countries that have lower COP and maybe lower standards. How do we compete on a unlevel playing field?

The 2 i know of are

Ian Harvey on the sector board.
Who stated a revision was discussed for an age at the board meeting YET STILL made it through!

Gemma Smale Rowland on the TAC, who incidentally has a milk vending machine. I wonder if that has a red tractor logo on it anywhere?

She was on a call last week i was on about RT dairy, and sadly never said a word.

Unusual for young Gemma to be lost for words.
But if she is on RT TAC then she was part of the team that dreamed up the new proposals.
I think sometimes she is more interested in self promotion rather than those she is meant to represent.

Remember if you are using a Red Tractor logo or making a claim about Red Tractor as part of your business operation, you need a Red Tractor licence.
Thats off their website. Wonder how much they charge?
Do you think the revisions are fair?
I find that a problem if she can't stick up for proposals she helped formulate. There's alot of people self promoting rather than leaving real tangible benefits for all to benefit from.

A decent portal or hub where we can have all our information has got to be the way forward and make sure it is updated 6 monthly etc, could even have online medicine book etc

New recommendations on providing "temporary ", no definitive time span on that, worker accommodation.

Simple way round it.
New worker purchases said accommodation , no RT paperwork required, worker then sells the accommodation back upon leaving job.

Simples.

Careful what you wish for!

This is exactly what the BCMS replacement could entail.
All the medical history of an animal flashed up on a screen in the market.

How much am I bid for Mr Jones blue that had 2 doses for pneumonia.......

Could be quite profitable, correcting housing/husbandry issues rather than giving something a couple of doses of what's in the medicine cabinet

Happy at it

Has anyone seen the latest article from potter in the dairy farmer magazine, basicly stating that the standards are far too lax, and representatives of the nfu should not be involved as they aren't strong enough minded to put the failing/failed dairy farmers out of business.

Would anyone agree with this?

Apparently he has had numerous letters of support.

Support from megalomaniacs hoping they can pick up nextdoor no doubt.

I'm no fan of RT. Not only is there zero premium attached to the brand. Most folk are running their own schemes anyway. So what exactly are we paying for?
I see no need for it at all.
I'm vehemently opposed to the notion that we should have linked data records.

Also the current consultation seems written/designed to give the answers they want.

Yes I agree. Standards it seems are decided as the inspector drives in the lane.
We get pulled up for things that you then go on another farm and question how they got through.

Thing that annoys me is we all know people that get passed who really should not, then countryfile get a hold of it and undermine the whole organisation.it was a joke with that woman that was now vegan, if a social care worker said they didn’t take the child out of a dangerous situation because they’d loose work then they’d be at fault but she openly admitted to doing a sh!t job and it’s the industry’s fault !

Whether you believe he is sh!t stirring is debatable. What he says is fair though; there are too many in the dairy trade that need to up their game particularly with reference to lameness, drug use and general welfare. Where I believe the future should be is in milk buyers having their own standards and auditing, as many are already, and dispense with the one-size-fits-all, lowest common denominator, clip board wielding Red Tractor.

Don't let the Tesco and Waitrose producers hear you say that!!!!

Red tractor is an irrelevance in the dairy sector- the way all the buyers are moving you will need to jump through more hoops than O.J. Simpson's legal team to be able to supply milk in the coming years. You wait till the Johnes plans kick in!

We are all along way down ( I would hope) the Johnes eradication plan.
