Dont know much about them, but I saw a small niche crowd in Lancashire on facebook, Pendle sharpening shed, seem to specialise in refurbishing handpiece and machines. Their work looks tasty and reasonably priced, anyone use them ? They look like they could put spins handpiece back together?

At least they're both still in one piece (y)

I think Spin's busy trying to change his 'occupation box' thingummyjig to one that says 'handpiece technician'.

Maybe you should send them to @spin cycle for reconditioning (or recycling)? He clearly has the knack for it, and he has his workbench all set up ready to accept commissions.?

.....I'm not so sure ....?

I’d say sometimes you just have to buy a new tool those old side oil machines can run hot , sealed bearings are great but sadly they are getting very expensive composited you the 0.30ppkg price of the wool this year

The front half is all the same on all handpieces. For occasional farmer use your better with a simple oil bath barrel. Keep them oiled and they take more abuse and being left out in shed. More to go wrong with the bearing type. Bearings can go especially if left out in damp environments a but they supposedly run smoother.
If your shearing thousands as a job, go for bearings. If your shearing a couple of hundred of your own ewes and dagging them couple times a year. Go simple oil bath, should last a life time.
One of ours lives on the machine ready for dragging etc in the pens. Wifey got woken up by "a bloody hell ringing" at three in the morning. I went out at seven-ish to find the pet lambs had pulled the cord and it had been spinning round all night. Most teeth gone off the comb and the handpiece was smoking and blueing up from heat. Cooled down, oiled and greased and back to work! Bit noisy but does dagging and occasionally shear a few

Don't you go doing a runner with out finishing the story ?
just what i was thinking....AH GAWD THE PRESSURE :D
Now Spin, we want a proper video of the operation, showing said handpiece cutting like 'a hot knife through butter' - no still pictures (not saying that you could stage these or we don't trust you or anything, you understand?).

We won't accept any "I'm not tech savvy to do that," sob stories either - you've 2 young daughters home on this lockdown malarky, I'm sure they will have the technology.
Looking forward to your video appearing, anytime soon.......
