Shoots to be licensed

I see Wild Justice has forced Defra to tighten the rules on shooting especially those that release birds in or within 500m of a protected wildlife site as well as more inspections of release pens to ensure that pens are not stocked at more than 400 birds/acre within woodland

Personally I have no truck at all with large commercial shoots that have no home for the shot birds and am not against these operations being licensed and regulated

I’m no fan of large commercial shoots. They do more harm than good in my opinion.

Problem is, Packham and co won’t stop there, they’ll just keep chipping away until they get what they want. A total ban.
The way I see it, all these other sorts of shooting provide a sort of "buffer" of things that have to be banned before they come after the sort of shooting I'm interested in.
  1. Licence seriously large commercial shoots
  2. Ban seriously large commercial shoots, licence smaller shoots
  3. Ban smaller shoots, licence shooting winged vermin
  4. Ban shooting winged vermin, licence shooting foxes
  5. Ban shooting foxes, licence shooting deer
  6. Ban shooting deer, no more reasons to own a firearm
  7. Ban private ownership of firearms.
Can't help but think that Packham et al are going to work their way down that list.

Just like fox hunting. Talk about the canary in the coal mine.

That was one of the main reasons behind my support for hunting. I’m not that fussed on hunting and the people who carry it out, but it was inevitable that once it fell, they’d turn their attentions to shooting which is exactly what’s happening.

I’ve always found it easier to justify fox hunting than blasting chickens out of the air that have been specifically reared & released for it, then spooked to fly up.

I wouldn’t like to see either stopped though.

There are far more people who go fishing than shooting, get them on board by explaining that they'll be next if shooting goes. Same for anyone who eats meat, because that's where the nutters will head if they get fishing banned.

Surely coarse fishing for sport is questionable as that looks rather cruel?
As someone who is in favour of a ban on live exports of animals I take it
you are equally concerned about this barbaric out dated pastime?

Commercial shoots only have their own greed to blame.
There is absolutely NO justification for this sort of thing ..
