I have a stocks seeder thing that blows seed down 8 pipes onto splash plates. I’ve used it with osr across 3 m successfully. It can handle grass seed (rye grass) but how wide apart can I set the splash plates? Will 8 plates cover 4 metres evenly with grass seed? Anybody tried it?

I’ve got 9 outlets on 6m and works fine. Worth getting proper spreading outlets from Spaldings or similar.

Good. I’ll stick it on the front of my power Harrow tractor, tickle it in with the power Harrow and tow the roller behind that. No peeing about with the 3m rig anymore.

Best off sticking it behind the power harrow in between the harrow and the packer, can easily put it too deep otherwise, or better still mount on a set of Cambridge rolls. An 8 outlet Stocks wizard will cover 6 meters, you need to split each pipe to 2 outlets for that

I’ve often wondered about this.
Traditionally we’ve applied seed with an Alvan Blanche brush box in front of light seed harrows and roller which works well. Where the light seed harrows won’t work because of trash we’ve power harrowed the seed in and rolled and it’s also worked well BUT we also roll before seeding and just tickle with the power Harrow. If you don’t roll before seeding then I agree, the power Harrow will work it in too deep and it will be pushed in to deep in the tractor wheelings.

Don't worry about all that faff . Put it on behind the power Harrow in front of your trailed roller it'll grow just fine .

We used to seed about 4050 acres a year of less when I was dairying. We only ever put them on top with a Nordstein type drill , then cover in with chain harrows followed by a roll

Yes some folks say just seed and roll but there always looks to be too much unburied seed to me. Light zig zag seed harrows are best but won’t work in my min till regime and are a pain generally. I reckon if the power Harrow is running resting on its roller and the tips of the times are just tickling then it’s about just right.

Grass will be one of the very few seeds that doesn't seem to need buried
