How close can I spot spray next to a watercourse, I have got thistles and nettles under electric wire running alongside the river, I would jfdi but it's next to a footpath...

Depends on the chemical I think? I believe Thistlex label is 5m, others may be 1m unless they have aquatic approval? Then there is the question, if applying by knap sac, at what distance does the operator need need not just PA6A but PA6AW and in what instance does one need to submit AqHerb01 form..... Maybe someone who has PA6AW will be along soon to contribute and confirm or point out my errors...

I think there is no so much legislation on the statue books that is is not actually possible to complete a day without breaking some law, be that knowingly or unknowingly, even if one had an entire legal team to pre review every action.

And who is accountable if some walker decides to take matters into their own hands one evening after dark..

I have been told off for mentioning thistlex and knapsack sprayers in the same sentence because I can never remember all these brand names. I think the one I used to use was Grazon which was approved for hand-held.

Valid point, though to be fair neither I or the OP ever mentioned the type of sprayer. Was just an example product, I thought the OP may have a bad back and the leccy fence lower than his spray boom will travel... but yes, in a hand held scenario of course nobody would be considering Thistlex, Grazon is also 5m buffer.

Strimmer or a weedwiper, are what I was told.

But no doubt a hand held wiper needs a ticket these days too.

Apparently Thistlex and its relatives play hell with your corneas, so make sure you have high quality eye protection when using.

What spray are you using? Is someones dog going to lick the grass 10 minutes later?
I would respectfully suggest that if you have the certificate to use a knapsack you would either know how far or be able to find the data sheet as posted above.

can you get roundup to spray near water courses ,i am sure i seen one which calls itself aquatic roundup , might be the stuff for the job
