Spring barley without dressing

We are wondering whether to just clean and not dress it just incase we don't use it.I know others do it what are your thoughts?

Ours was cleaned in autumn when the cleaner was doing winter cereals
Never put dressing on winter or spring seed

At this time of the spring it should get up and away swiftly so no treatment needed, though I suppose it depends how much water it will be sitting in

£20/t is cheap. I thought it was more like £40? We drill at 500 seeds plus so its more like 250kg/ha. I cleaned 21 tons of spring barley so even at £20/ton its a £420 saving.

I've got some spring barley if anyone needs some for seed !!

It will be cheaper than the stuff that comes out of the merchants seed bag

A proper seed test including disease is best. I don't treat mine because there was no disease to treat. Spend the money you'd have spent on the treatment on a higher seed rate. I've got 420 seeds/m2 in the bag ready for when the land finally dries out enough to continue drilling. Variable rate too.

Yes. £70/t to dress and treat. £50 dress only.

This is first time in 5 years we have. Fusarium levels were high after wet June/July last year

Buy a bit to grow for next year and drill own undressed
never seen any difference in yield ever
high fusarium year have dressed but then the winter and pre ems hit it hard

Usually end up spraying wild oats anyway.

This is the first year for ages any cereals have had a dressing.

Last harvest I had some bunt in undressed wheat, it was my own fault as I'd simply pushed my luck to far. I should have got it tested but didn't.
Because of this, all winter wheat for this autumns drilling has come from bought in dressed seed, luckily I had new seed Diego, dawsum and extase last year and as a precaution because I was worried about contamination throught the combine I've got everything SPD and will continue to do so for a few years to be safe.
