Just had my second abortion.
1st was late Jan for march 15 onwards calving
2nd today
Any suggestions, I have found one ibr positive cow so I vaccinate now.
Is it worth having it tested?
Or am I likely to get an inconclusive result?

I wouldnt worry, are they fighting to feed or have you handled them lately ? . Time to worry is if you have half a dozen in a week

Lost afew last year and did lots of tests, nothing came back positive.

We started giving the cows a seaweed based lick called calsea "Calsea Precalver Mineral Block 15kg" https://www.countrylife.ie/shop/product/Calsea-Precalver-Mineral-Block-15kg/9021943
And didn't loose any afterwards.
At the time I didn't know what to and decided to try these after being on a soil nutrition coarse and discussing it with farmers there. Give it a shot.

We had a bad year with 6 out of 30 aborting last year. We vaccinate against bad and lepto. 3 out of the 6 came back as nerospora , the other 3 came back with nothing. We were told not to keep daughters of the positive nerospora cows and that there was a slightly higher risk of positive cows aborting again. I made some pretty evil posters that I put on all the footpaths telling people to pick up their dog sh!t - I don’t know if it did any good but it made me feel better! It’s a bad thing when you dread going to check the calving shed 😩. This year, touch wood, 100% better.

I would think the number of cows is an important factor if you have 10 it’s a problem if you have 300 maybe not such a problem had a couple over the years here at 5/7 months but nothing after these and both got in calf again
