Just moving around 1st thing this morning and I get a call from the local equestrian centre “there’s some cows out on the road near you “ thankfully not mine so I call neighbour who has some fields next to me , not there’s quick look out with the pickup and I spot them in a gate way . 9 smart store heifers I’ve a good feeling I know who’s they and and call him . Just as he arrives with his wagon they jump the fence into my neighbours field.

Know the feeling. Ours got out of the shed into the forestry commission plantation. Went round to bed them up and shed empty. Sinking feeling. I remember turning the bedding over with my fork to see if they were under the straw I was in such disbelief. Got them back in by a miracle but they went through several fences on the way as if they weren’t there. Only stopped them by running round the last paddock with some leccy while they were against the side with a hedge. Once they’d had a belt or two they stayed put. Lim X that hadn’t been out before. Mental.

Had some yearlings get out on to grass lawn of the local big smart house, manicured lawn next to their tennis court , they ran towards the court , gate was open but instead plowed through the courts perimeter fence across the court and plowed out through the other side fence and off and away ( insurance job once the owner had calmed down)

Many years ago we had some electric fences cut against a wood as the owner wanted "his" deer to graze both the field and in the wood, local dog walkers didnt like having to cross the fence so ripped it down, youndstock were put in neigbours field whose cattle were wild, we got one load out but his then went mad and charged through his fence on to local national trust house lawn, two jumped into the pond the rest ran over the lawn scaring to death the guy on a ride on lawn mower, all ended ok in the end and we laugh now but at the time it was far from funny.

We had one jump a hedge whilst trying to get her out of the gate and disappeared up the road. Located her eventually in the garden of a council bungalow, middle one of a run of six, only access to the garden through the house, perfectly manicured garden greenhouse etc. She just stood there looking at us whilst we contemplated just how much damage would be done in an attempt to extract her. Anyway we have her a quick smack and she jumped clean out no damage whatsoever and went back up the road and found her mates. Flighty Lims have their advantages sometimes 😉

We had a fencing job on in a roadside field, the cows got moved out of the field we were fencing in and into some grass a few fields away, we got all the fence and gates up, hedge cut etc, then suddenly we have 40 cows running at us down the hill in full stampede!
We jumped and shouted, waved and screamed, they ran straight through us and over the road into a freshly planted field of spuds, tramping sets down and kicking tatties down the rows! We set on a chase, they found the road and carried on the stampede.
it took us all day and they ended up running over 6 miles when we found them.
It turned out it was a suspected disgruntled previous tenant that day had vandalised our machinery and cut the fence and let the cows loose

Had a gang of bullocks break through into neighbour’s oilseed rape crop in June one year.
Not funny trying to walk through a waist high crop of OSR trying to round up half a dozen highly excited Friesians trotting away with ease in all directions at once........

One morning loading lim heifers for Thirsk mart pitch black ,one heifer cleared gate and disappeared into the darkness. decided she could only go into field I would go with others and leave her. Travelled down to Thirsk (40mins) unloaded and travelled back home (40mins) to find heifer must have jumped 2 hedges 1 post and rail fence and was grazing the village green!!! Blew my horn and she set off up the road 1/2 mile turned into farm and stood next to her pen quietly opened the gate and she walked in never be as lucky again.
