Sorry, I know this is a well trodden path, but I hope you will take a minute to read this and vote.

IF the NFU reflected on the furore around the GFC module and made the statement;

We have been pleased to have had involvement with RT since it's inception but we now feel that it no longer meets our principles for an assurance scheme and with a recent break down in trust with it's management, we will be looking to enable a fresh, minimal cost alternative to enable access to all markets with as much ease as possible, as soon as possible.

Would you support that position?

Thank you.

the only people i would trust to run assurance would be @AHDB as the way they are funded should keep them accountable to farmers and not create conflicts of interest - they have remit to maximise market access and opportunities so could never seen to disadvantage uk farmers

no assurance should go beyond statutory legal standards unless a premium is offered

market access should never be restricted or controlled by private companies

So if the NFU's position was;

We have been pleased to have had involvement with RT since it's inception but we now feel that it no longer meets our principles for an assurance scheme and with a recent break down in trust with it's management, we will be looking to enable AHDB to start a fresh, minimal cost alternative to enable access to all markets with as much ease as possible, as soon as possible.

Would you support that?

maybe yes - but devil would be in the detail - as others have already said they have already screwed this up big time once already

Thank you.

I'm just trying to establish what would make people think the NFU had understood and accepted the problem they have.

They really should be asking and polling every one of their members on these things.

I think if Minette announced this position, or words to that effect, I'd renew my membership the next day.

i would want to see all none farming members and sponsors expelled from the NFU to eliminate conflicts of interest as well before i rejoined

Would it work to have a core standard in an assurance scheme such as RT. Then have the GFC add-on.

What you do now is sell your beef/grain/lamb, etc.

The core assurance standard comes lumped in with your produce for the agreed price. If, however, the buyer wants GFC, you charge extra for this, and only sign declaration to say you've complied with GFC if they stump up the cash.

Every nfu person who is above normal member level would need to resign and be barred from being a member again.

Got to remove the rot to start new good growth..

I feel that my suggested position would be a genuine demonstration of snubbing friends to support farmers in a way that I don't remember them ever doing before. I would like to give them massive credit for that and admitting mistakes were made rather continuing to dig the hole they are in.

It's a slightly confusing poll @Jackov Altraids .

I voted "no", but then read your OP, so changed my vote.

Wondering if others have just read the question, then voted, and not read the/your first post.

Sorry.

It seemed clear in my head when I posted it!!

I think people are waiting to hear the NFU's response to RT/BRC and was wondering what they could say to impress all of us who have become somewhat disillusioned.

I thought it would be easier to set this poll rather than ask everyone what they wanted them to say.

Its all somewhat academical, but what I've suggested they should do, would only actually happen if what you've suggested, happened.
But I wouldn't bar anyone.
Truth and reconciliation.

Because they seem so busy scratching each others backs in some woke dream world that they don’t have a rudder let alone listen to it’s farmer members.

But wouldn't an announcement as I suggested, be a much needed and refreshing change of direction?
It would indicate that the needs of farmers had finally got hold of their 'rudder'?
