Thistles

I once gave a recommendation for a client to spray forefront on a field that was diggered with creeping thistles to the point that he could cut them each summer when they were as high as the bonnet on the tractor.

He sprayed them way later than I anticipated and it still worked.

That’s a shame, probably be to spray, I had a reseed come full of scotch ones a few years back and just went with a sharp spade and some headphones and chopped them out. Worked a treat. Spray wasn’t an option though as I had plantain and clover in the mix.

Did a couple hours today doing exact the same.

Found the photos. Absolutely nailed every one. Near 2L/ha forefront plus adjuvant. Note that they were sprayed way beyond what would be considered the normal accepted spray timing.

Slightly off topic but while your talking,,, do any of you guys suffer with a sore / dry throat after using any of those herbicides mentioned above? My eyes also tend to be sore. I'm in all the safety gear but just the smell seems to get me .

What about using Thistlex with a quad bike sprayer?

Only legal in a ‘boom sprayer’. You could cable tie the hand lance to the bike rack if anyone saw you though.🤐

I was told the reason it, and Pastor, are boom sprayer only, is because they can be extremely harmful to your eyes if you should get a bit of blowback. Be careful, you only have one pair of those.
