Traditional style Angus

A very good price is great as long as it doesn’t cost a fortune to get there. Which in my situation it would, I’m sure there’s a place for a larger animal but it’s not with me.
And yes you’re right, the market currently wants a larger animal, I don’t fully understand why but that’s the way it is.

Shelf space/pack size, processing costs, them not having to pay for the real costs of animal size, at a guess or three?

Your on the road to no where producing them short fat cattle, they will eat the the same as a moderate beast but return so much less .

How did you come to that conclusion?

When they’re on poor quality forage the ability to eat a lot is a good thing anyway, they need a lot more of it to get by on. And if they eat the same amount but actually manage to maintain condition and get back in calf year in year out they’re already outperforming these bigger beasts. Trust me I’ve tried a bigger bull, he’d even won a number of rosettes! Doesn’t count for anything when they’re out at 1700ft and it’s howling wind and rain most of the year.

The same sort of land that bull above works n lives on . Little dumpy old fashioned cattle are no more hardy than a moderate size beast that is wanted , why produce something the market dose not particularly want ?
