Treating the underside of a pickup.

We live in an area where the council is too keen of putting salt on the roads. What do you recommend to treat a brand new one to help it last? What`s good to put on an older one where there`s some rust already?

Steam clean the underside of the older one by hoisting the front up i the air with a telescopic and then the same with the rear. Once fully dry under seal with wax oil But keep it off brake discs as per instructions. That’s how I did my land rover a few years ago but safety issues don’t make it a recommendation.!

I had a case involving a fairly new lightweight truck which rusted in places. Manufacturer’s solution was to have it sprayed all over the underneath sections with a sort of underseal. Even I could see that was just painting over the problem which would return.
It caused more problems than it solved and the expert engineer said it was so bad it was a write off. So it had to go.
Whatever you do, be careful and if the vehicle is under warranty then that too could have consequences.

Any vehicle I get in future, new or second hand will be sprayed underneath from the first day I have it. And repeated about twice a year all the time I own it. I get my vehicles serviced every 5000 miles, so no hardship to spray every time it's in . As no main dealer will ever service my vehicle it's not a problem.

Bit off topic but has anyone made a sensible, safe lifting device for cars and vans?
I seem to remember something you drove the front wheels on and lifted with telehandler then it had a drop down safety prop type of thing.

These guys have always had a good reputation in the Land Rover enthusiast community.

I could be a little controversial here but the founder "Chris" has been looked at as a bit of an Old Woman by many. It did start off as a good job but the products he uses have changed much like creosote has changed. There are some that tell of poor covering and the products washing off in the first puddle they drive through.
He did go through a health food craze and was extolling the virtues of a carrot juice diet, he can certainly talk the hind leg off a donkey if it doesn't drop dead of boredom first

I am just redoing some of our cars just now. Any rusty bits get big pressure washer with grit bin attached = shiny metal.. then dried out with space heater, then roughly half and half black wax and old 90 gear oil mix sprayed on hot. Neat wax dries up after a couple of years I find. Then fill main and quarter sills with gear oil last. My cars are a travelling oil slick..

I was talking to an ex salt miner who reckoned that hydraulic oil had the best anti corrosion properties so our vehicles get a mix of triad 46 and waxoyl. Main thing is to get plenty inside the chassis so it can't rust from the inside out. The tinwork inside the engine bay gets a spray of wd40 a couple of times a year to protect it but not be too clarty.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
