We paid for a machine that he said was about ready, and 4 months later, still waiting, and he doesn't take our calls

That’s looking like cash flow issues, unless that’s standard for them, never dealt with them so just idle distant speculation.
Other option is they’re to busy 🤔

bloody clever engineer , can make any thing , does not have finesse of lemken or horsch but you will never break it , and he has had trouble with his knees , but no excuse . would not think cash would be an issue he always busy . but to quote him , said one day about not answering his phone , am renowned for it and laughed .
maybe he should do a bit less and charge a bit more .

Famous for it. Being a good welder doesn't cut the mustard when you want people to spend tens of thousands of pounds with you.

Sorry but this is very one sided view. Perhaps he doesn’t want your business? Very easy to knock someone who doesn’t have a voice to reply!
This isn't quite the usual thread. There are several with similar troubles, who have tried to give a balanced view.

On the previous thread with similar difficulties you advised to use the OP of this one as a possible go-between.

He answers the phone when his Dad rings him
I ended up just travelling to his yard to get sorted, as phoning proved "fruitless"
I unstood his wife did certain stints answering the phone in the office.
Philip Watkins used to be the same......... although he has sorted the job out with good office staff now (y)

Had similar trouble with Tim Howard about 15 years ago He then accused me of harrassing him......well if he'd answer the phone!! He still owes me a grand.

I hope Philip Watkins has sorted it out as it needed to be.

Once upon a time, in the dim and distant past, I had some money. I decided to spend it on a new low loader trailer.

After two enquiries proved fruitless, I had an independent chap come and measure up. I’ve seen his bespoke trailers, they are superb. But he stopped answering the phone, so I gave up.

A premium trailer builder up north took the job on. It was July and he said I would have it by November. I paid the £1800 + VAT deposit.

October, nothing. No call backs, no communication.

November, they hadn’t started it but will soon.

December, same story. I called December 20th, closed until January 7th.

I called January 8th. Twice. Eventually got a call back on the 12th. They had been very busy and hadn’t started to build my trailer. I said you couldn’t have been that busy, you were closed for nearly three f**king weeks!

He said it would be ready in February.
I asked for my deposit back. That took nearly a month.

I revamped my existing trailer and still have it.

Twunts.

Oh no, far from it.

It’s a regular occurrence. I’m thinking it’s me that’s the twunt for expecting anything different.

And don’t get me started on paying for stuff in advance. Do that and all manner of service suddenly becomes completely unnecessary.
