If timed correctly & sown in the spring then yes & your cattle will love the resulting SB straw..............Combine won't though, make sure your combine operator has cut similar undersown crops before & you'll also benefit from a good drying day when cutting.
Timings need to be right as does barley variety which needs a bit of care - if wet & it goes flat you'll be as well putting a mower through it as a wide combine header won't like it at all.

Had undersown spring cereal as an option when in ELS/HLS and it was the harvesting of it that was the biggest headache of the whole scheme fortunately I have a neighbour with a stripper header which made the job so much easier.

Cut barley seed rate back so it gives other crop chance to grow.

Don't put too much N on either, it it goes flat it kills grass.

Limited with weed control options if any broadleaf plants in undersown mixture.
Just nip heads off with combine to get barley, leave it a week or 2 then in with mower to get rest.

We do 30-40 acres a year undersown to establish new leys.

Do it all the time with normal leys. Don't feed the barley too heavy and its usually fine.

If you have to cut it high with the combine put the mower through after and wrap it otherwise the rolled down straw will rot some of the ley out.

Do it every year.
Cut high, on a windy drying day.
Bale, wrap, and feed cattle love it in early part of autumn. Never mown it usually put lambs on to take down grass and tramp down stubble which soon disappears.
Some years green as leeks others not so.
