what is a good model?
Got a Husqvarna 430x nera very pleased with it. Had it twelve month's lawns are always tidy now and never have to do anything other than alter settings on my phone! I had to install pathway and crossing points as I have 4 separate lawns and it won't travel on the gravel paths.

I agree, also hydraulic motors always blow and expensive!
Never blown a motor tbh.
My mate runs hayter 5 and 7 gang trailed machines. Keeps buying machines with decent cutting units for little more than scrap money. Never spends a penny on sharpening and new blades etc. very cheap machines to run like that.

Robot mower, I can vouch for Kress.

Please ignore the patio, it only mows the lawn.

Another vote for the robot. We have approx 0.5 acre lawn and the robot deals with it easily. Installed a month ago and set to work. I hadn't cut the lawn since December so it was pretty dense (and mossy)but to my amazement the robot had the whole thing under control within 5 days at the highest setting. I was then able to adjust the height down over the next few weeks to desired height. As for concerns about collecting grass, you wouldn't even see what it's cutting now.

Kept our old ride on for a couple of awkward spots, but I'd never buy one again. Every week is a torture trying to find over an hour to get the lawn cut in dry weather. Now I can watch 'Erik' our Husqvarna from my living room working all hours getting his work done😊

bought to mow under the permeant electric fence
if want a nice finish, buy a cylinder ex commercial
Be very wary of ex commercial cylinder mowers, they are not built for domestic gardens, working round borders trees etc. they are very good for mowing in straight lines very fast and clean. But if you are trtying to cut round corners they are travelling too fast and normally have no way to slow them down, they are aqlso very heavy. I have had two such machines in the past and have been glkad to trade both on. The second I bought a large Atco ( when Atco were a real maker) was over 20 years old but had probably only done 10 hours is that in its life as the old boy had bought it new for his very large lawn but could not cope with it.
They are designed to pull a roller with a seat and mow crticket and football piches

I thought there was a certain man on here who bought a Robot last year who was rather. Underwhelmed with it, they are not for everyone bas you do not get the striping and they are not the best where you have several different pieces of grass

You can, because it’s rtk it has no wires and does stripes, if you want.
There is a lot to think about here!
Currently spend too much time sitting on a diesel kubota.
I am wondering if it could safely travel to my brother's house, 300m down a track?
No traffic on this route but could program it to do this at night...same with each side of drive where crossing would be dangerous during day?

Our model would need a charger on both lawns, the next model up just has a faster charger, so I think 2 models up maybe for a bigger range. Our supplier put one on that could do a cricket pitch on as a demo, just make sure rtk coverage did the job etc. Best talk to your dealer.

Maybe, but if it were left to me it would be chomping through 2 weeks + of growth after a trip to the petrol station.

When we moved here some 20 odd years ago I bought a seconhand Hayter ( rebadged Countax), it’s still running but now consigned to harrowing the horse ménage. Bought 2 more secondhand Countax in the intervening years (300 and 500), both still running fine BUT have spend a fair bit of time keeping them going - as you’d probably expect with old kit. Main issues are rotting cutting decks, and drive belt idler wheels, also the hydrostatic transmissions are a pain if they go wrong. If they go wrong as in losing power that can sometimes be fixed with an oil change, if It’s a mechanical problem, transmissions are supposed to be unserviceable- basically because stripping down takes too long, but they can sometimes be fixed, but you need time and mechanical know how.

Had a few the last few years started with a castle garden done the job but didn’t like it damp, then onto a jd was slightly better but not much. Just got a 10 year old gr2120 kubota different league could be out cutting hay in the rain with it without an issue
