Watery mouth prevention

Last 25 years we have used Terramycin pills for prevention of watery mouth, all triplets and weaker lambs but vet can’t source these now so has given us a 100ml bottle of spectam but due to the shortage we have to keep taking it back to get it refilled !!!!! This we be a pain as we have more than one lambing shed.
Anybody got an easier solution to this problem?

I was reading that earlier too. We started us the provita lamb response pro biotic last year and good success with it

Had noroclav tablets for cats before from the vets for that job, worked great, not sure if still available

Why don't you take a coke bottle and get them to fill that??

Then you can refil your own Spectam bottle at home - or will they only sell you it a bit at a time??

No idea, but thats what they told my wife today.....puzzling

Noroclav is co-amoxiclav which is a very important second -line antibiotic in humans for a variety of infections. It should certainly not be used as preventative treatment in animals.

I’ve tried the panatec lamb and assume it made a difference. I’ll phone him tomorrow and see if there’s a difference

Seems like @hally 's vet recognises that Spectam has a use though

We only ever used it on weak triplets and the like. Have a bottle in the cupboard from last year - I wonder what it's worth on the Black Market

Theve maby ran out of bottles. I got a couple last week. Cant see why they wont give you some if you take your own bottle tho.

That was my thinking too I’m probably one of the only sheep farmers very much against using antibiotics like Spectum/Spectram whatever the hell it’s called, in my eyes it’s basically allowed people to have poor hygiene for years. I know some farms with resistance against the product.

I use the Panatec lamb (probiotic) tablets on lambs after I’m half way through lambing indoors..

We don't use a prevention other than checking for colostrum and keeping pens bedded but can cure watery mouth with bio yoghurt and a jab of pen strep so it's not big deal anymore.
