That feeling when it starts buggering about ,late afternoon, with rain coming 🤦‍♂️

As mentioned in other posts, feeding them hard seems to help. Also packer location can play a part too. A few videos on the baler Facebook group showing NH balers being absolutely stuffed, but they producing some nice, well shaped bales.

Your learning James 😉
Didn't you have a nice John deere baler........🤐🙈😭😖
Dont mention the deere... Welger on it's way soon courtesy of @Will 1594 . Hopefully that will slow down my balding

That's a good budget, I've two conventional balers a nh 377 cost me £1800 had it 5 years and depending on weather bale anything up to 4k bales, also have a Massey inline 139 which I've just bought cost £8500..All balers need setting up correctly and maintaining, most of the time that's half the problem with banana bales.

I am sure this thread will have been done to death but if it has then I am not finding it.
What's the opinion on the best make and model to choose for making up to / around 2,000 small conventional hay bales per year, within a price of around £5-6k second hand?
There's a NH 377 on faceache not far from you at Longhope . Looks very tidy

don't rub it in🙄. ..I happened on a jd459 in 2012...for £1800....I think bloke sold it cos it had a knotter problem (that he did not divulge)....I knew nothing about knotters but just reset the faulty one to look like the good one and it was fine...flushed with success I sold it for £3k 🙈😭

I got a pretty tidy NH 376 (I think, might be a 276? would have to check) sat in the shed doing nothing. Had it over 20 years and only does a few hundred each year just for lambing pens. TBH now I have a bale unroller I don't even bother and haven't used it past 2 years. Always kept under cover. SE Wales.

a genuine reason for sale is possibly the best motivation to buy

Question about a nh baler. Wev a 575 that throws bannana bales, what would the problem be?
Never ever had a problem on 570-5, first check feeder rotor timing in relation to each other and also to plunger, there is also an adjustment at top of feeder fork 3 holes if it's in top or bottom hole put it into middle and check after baling a few.

Thanks yes, I spotted that one and was minded to check it out, but I have since wondered if stretching to a Welger could be worth looking into. We have been hanging onto a IH B47 simply because it was familiar (from the 1980s), and have done a load of repairs and mods to it, including the knotter knife fixings, but now keen to rely on something with a better prospect of doing the job after its long winter TLC in the shed!

Unless you get a habitual bad tie-er.
Far nicer built than a Welger of the day.
How easy to get spares now, though?

Very possible, although having fixed them ( IH and Claas dealer trained ) I found that 75% plus of Markant knotter faults were needle related, setting them is critical, the rest usually tucker finger adjustment or blunt/worn knotter knives.
However I don't think they are any worse than other small balers, better screwed together than most.
Now I've been out the game for quite a while now but Claas while pricey for parts were usually very good at supplying parts, I don't know if that's still the case.

Absolutely right, they were economically engineered, rather than built up like an onion in layers each time they thought of another bit to add on.
I don't think Claas still make small balers. At least not for UK?
