Which round baler short wet grass

Currently running a Kuhn VB3165 round baler, is a great piece of kit apart from wrapping grass around all the rollers when bailing short, lush grass with lots of clover.

This type of crop is now the majority of our silage, would any other roller balers be better at this?

I’m guessing a roller baler would cope better? Will it put as much in a bale? Would be reluctant to lose the ability to make larger straw bales. Work is half straw half silage

They'll all wrap on the rollers under the belts. I've plenty experience of welger and mchale belt balers and anything short wraps as soon as you're chopping it'll wrap but it's a small price to pay having to let the belt tension off and cleaning the rollers off at the end of each day sometimes more often compared to the benefits of a belt baler compared to a fixed chamber.

Krone v150xc belt driven slats is the only machine that I know will bale everything

Short sticky leaf buggers up every belt baler

A fixed chamber will bale any green stuff, but straw bales become explosive. I changed from a krone to a Kuhn fb3135. Kuhn needs a least 4 turns net in straw or the pressure springs the net open, but I'm predominantly baling grass now

Krone pickup it's not as "efficient" compared to the Kuhn, and the netter was temperamental (it may be improved, my krone was a 2016 model)

I did demo a belt 3135 Kuhn before thr fixed chamber demo and subsequent purchase of a Kuhn roller. Made 50%DM bales from short leaf full of clover with her belt demo. Krone bales were a few kg lighter than Kuhn demo, but krone bales kept shape better for subsequent wrapping. Kuhn baled quickest, and in the fairly dry stuff didn't suffer significant wrapping around rollers. Bales made by a roller are better shape for wrapping than both krone and Kuhn belt

The krone hunger in straw should be driven to be appreciated. Back door open/close seems slow, but it'll fire out 90 an hour behind 120hp, and still not be sweaty

Both roller and belt Kuhn are much easier to blow down and clean than the krone at the end of a shift. Krone knives are easier to remove for sharpening

I would thoroughly recommend you obtain a demonstrator krone for a day, and give yourself the opportunity to make up your own mind!

Thanks everything is chopped and sometimes we can’t get more than 100-150 bales before the belts stop spinning.
Its packs in under the scraper and rod with the bale size sensors on and can easily take an hour to clean off that and the other rollers.

Is it not possible to ease the pressure off on a roller baler? I’ve only ever used a belt.

Are you getting as much in with the roller Kuhn and the belt baler?

Unfortunately local Krone dealer backup is terrible

Really ? My balers have never stopped the belts and I've seen the drive rollers wrapped 25 to 30 mm deep and that's after 3/400 bales and 20 mins will scrape them off .

Yeh we can easily get 75mm right round on the top one, plus all wedged in where the bale sensors are that takes a lot of cleaning off. The others normally 10mm which is quick to clean. The belts completely green with bits stuck on.

Which baler do you run?

A fendt (Welger) they're not as good as they were 10 yrs ago buy theyre acceptable .

The newest mchale will be a good baler now as long as they're not still wrecking belts for fun with stones.

It's pretty rare I need to stop and clean out during the day but I'll scrape the rollers every night. The wetter it is the less it'll wrap it's worst when it's sugary and sticky

Yes roller pressure adjusted from the cab terminal. Kuhn roller putting more grass in the bale, but belt far better straw. Stones dent rollers here, belts are a far earlier casualty in the war on things mechanical

By better do you mean more in them? Or just faster/tidier
Interesting to say your getting more in with the roller baler we average around 700-750kg with silage and every extra saves quite a few bales over 2000
