Who said tractor manufacturers over price their spares??

Agrotron heater/aircon pod well and truly broken for some time, fan switch replaced some time ago along with the air con on/off switch and more recently the heater tap cable is stuffed. checked the parts list and found they are still available from SDF for the princely sum of 260 pounds, also looked at it on the bottom and saw a volkswagon logo on it, turns out same control panel was used on multiple volkswagons and they are available for far less.

Of cause will be a massive price difference to Aliexpress china😂

Go price it from local vw garage as a genuine part for a more accurate comparison.

When a tractor maker goes to the switch maker and asks for let's say 10,000 switches over a year, for a production run of 3 or 4 years, with another 300 a year for the next 10 years to meet spare part sales. They are at the back of the queue compared to VAG, Ford, GM PSA and the likes who want millions of switches. Back of the queue on supply and pricing.
Add to that because there are so many potential customers it makes it attractive for pattern part makers to have cheap copies made in China.

Hangon were not getting the violin oot for the makers aswell.
Tell you what then keep the same switches for 20years & there all available on the clone market at prices that reflect real ex farm gate prices.
Am not buying some of this tho, we can source identical parts with a bit of time spent & a lot less than the dealers want as its in one of there labelled genuine part boxes.
And we the end user are only buying single parts in some cases here, i wonder how cheap stuff is available if you buy 10000 of them.
 
Big manufacturers have to do parts manuals ,package / stock control & transport, all this costs money to do . If its a rubber seal for a filter costing pence or a mudguard which costs £100's they all have to be put through the same systems. Looking for cheaper takes a lot of time out of your day. If you want dealers to be open on busy times this has to be paid for, so support your local dealer you may need them for parts & service out of hours !

Why don't they keep things the same for 20 years? It seems to be a thing these days, constantly updating to the new model, from toasters to tractors. The manufacturers will claim it's customer driven but I'm not so sure. It does explain why it's easier and cheaper to find parts for a TE20 than a 6480

If all makers of things esp cars, trucks, vans, tractors etc etc dont do a refresh i guess they become less fashionable for the want of an easy way to put it.
Look how many times the ford escort had a new set of front n rear bumpers, diff wheels oh its a new car now!!! the latest must have model.
Tractor makers are a tough one to fathom out tho.
But i still stand by what i said the price mark up on many a part on all brands is just not on.
all sectors have similar ways of what they want for there part regardless if your business model can even sustain it.

obviously i posted this as its one of the more extreme examples of pricing differential,

if you want another example comparing a genuine SDF part to genuine part i recently had a hydraulic pump for another deutz air freighted from france ( worked out to round 600AUD ) to Au for roughly half the cost ( Au stock price over 1k) including freight, the bottom line is farmers are being screwed on parts.

A rear fender 3PL lift pushbutton we had shipped from the UK (again genuine SDF part) also significantly cheaper than Local warehousing.

happens so often here the bloke in the parts section of the local dealership almost has the quote " i hope your sitting down when i quote you the price" on a recorded message.

its not like this is a modern phenomenon either , been happening for years.

gonna happen a whole lot more when more stuff goes to "Drive By Wire". wont need buttons , switches, levers or the like, just the proprietary touch panel and a gazillion different solenoids, actuators and spools.

really though they should engineer machines so as consumables are generic/base line items, i can understand a transmission casting or an engine block being unique to the model however drive shafts, switches, spools, lamps, etc dont need to be exotic. i suspect a fair bit of the reason they do this is to be able to gouge, its been happening in the electronics industry for some time with some vendors even going to the trouble of rubbing the labeling off the surface of ICs so you cannot easily identify them.

Farmers are always being told to produce their produce at competitive prices however we are expected to pay unrealistic prices for our inputs.

Regrettably once your “proprietary touch screen” goes at 7 years old they’ll be obsolete and it’ll be “Very rare to find one of those nowadays, not sure it’s fixable if we can’t find one. Have a look at the latest model!”

When Triumph motorcycles relaunched in the early 1990s a big thing was made of their modular production. 900cc triples and 4 cyl 1200cc engines. Many cycle parts the same across all the ranges.
Now they have loads of engine sizes, loads of models all different and upgraded or superseded in a very short time.
It's the modern world.

When I was travelling in Oz in the late 90's I did some temping work. One I my jobs was taking components out of "pattern parts" boxes and putting them into Ford "genuine parts" boxes. It was all above board, that's how the system works, you just need to know the right spec for the part.
