You make some worth while points. I get the impression from talking to him that David is positive about lucerne but also realistic. He is also testing GS4 mix and other drought resilient herbal leys this year to compare with lucerne - results should be out soon. I know there's a train of thought that says if more farms in the traditionally drier arable areas can maintain profitable livestock businesses as part of their rotation - either by themselves or in combination with other businesses then this will be a positive development because mixed farming can bring a lot of other holistic benefits and reduce the need for inputs. He seems to be suggesting it's more trouble than it's worth , would it not b eisier for him to harvest it and feed it out on grass pasture when feed is short , as for the uk , there is an abundance of pasture in areas that to much rain is more of an issue so why keep sheep in an area that's difficult to grow grass , just my mutterings
There are also plenty of deep rooting herbs and grasses mixed with clovers that willcope with drier conditions and more of a Ballanced diet for sheep
we will perhaps catch it when its at the Cinema, would be a good chance to get out more .....
