So I've failed farm assurance (nothing wrong with stock or milk quality) but they now say I'm going to get a spot check within the next 12 months (no problem with that) what gets my goat is the fact, they've given me 28 days to pay for said visit (£270) and if its not paid within that time my farm assurance is being suspended and my milk won't be collected, I didn't realise that not paying an invoice which could be 10 months ahead of any visit, affected the quality of the milk I produced, therefore making it unsalable.

BTW, we failed on such things as not having "No Smoking" signs on the door to the dairy etc and not having data sheets printed out in hard copy plus an out of date health plan but were given the opportunity to correct these errors within 30 days with no mention of return visits or having to pay for any.

Did I see on another thread you are for moving to pastures new in the new year ?
I presume that will affect your thinking about whether to pay or just give them the

Two ways of looking at, 1) FA is a scam and added cost to the farmer and wants doing away with ( 2) We cant bang the uk's food assurance drum to stop imports killing us and then turn FA into a complete joke by wanting every farmer to pass regardless of his farming standards.

seems so. It arrived not long after a neighbour had just killed himself over stress’ of the job. They had both barrels for it. I wouldn’t have minded if there Was some massive safety breach but they’re just using it as an excuse to bully us.

Seemingly a a huge amount of new dairy standards have been put forward for review, we have our assurance stuff shortly so will quiz the assessor.

If 99% of dairy herds refused what could they do? SFA. Farmers could have stopped alot of rules and regs if 99% stood firm. Trouble is that the majority are borrowed to the hilt and couldnt stand firm without a pay cheque for the month or two it would take to wrestle power back.

No problem with farm assurance, just think its going a bit far refusing to pick up milk, for the reason quoted, can't say as assurance makes any difference to my cows, nothing would change in their management or health if there wasn't a scheme, but then we've always been farm assured, when weren't you assured if its made a difference ? or is its just made you pull your socks up so to speak.

We only needed 2 months after assurance ran out, but they said no, want to keep milking to the last minute, so will conform.

did You do it via video call? That’s how ours was done and it was the easiest farm assurance visit. I can imagine some of the inspector gadgets got bullied at school and now making up for it. Is it not a rule if you have so many minors you are at risk of an on the spot visit? We had a few minors last year and we had a 2 day warning that they were coming

There is no doubt that generally farm assurance has improved on farm practice, but and its a big but it seems to have morphed into such a force that it can call all the shots regardless of how petty and irrelevant some things are to our businesses.

Not sure if slurry storage Is a major or minor though.
If I read correctly however, you are planning to exit the industry in the near future and with cow prices flying. Is it worth spending on a store?
