I’m afraid your going to a have a shock when you start on your own 2 feet it’s not a dig at all , it just sometimes you can’t control all situations and everything isn’t straight forward.
I should clarify, sometimes sh*t happens and everything is against you and for whatever reason you have a full slurry pit that needs spreading when in an ideal world you wouldnt be spreading. Whilst not brilliant sometimes it happens!

But when its every single year the same farmers doing it repeatedly year after year rather than occasionally (1 in 5 years?) something has to change. It doesn't matter if you used to be able to do it that way with no problems, if its causing pollution you shouldnt be doing it! As above sometimes you have to, but you shouldnt have to all the time.

Some farms have an easy life regarding slurry, others it seems to be a perennial pain in the chuff.

Some very good contractors around us with umbilical or self propelled gear and they can soon shift some stuff for not a lot of money really. At least one guy has an umbilical with a pretty wide dribble bar setup and it's on good footwear, too.

Decent slurry storage really should pay for itself in time.

One of my discussion group members summed up slurry storage well, ”It isn’t difficult IF you keep the water out AND you have a big enough store.” I think the emphasis on if plus and sums it up well, in a high rainfall area you need roofs and a big store.
