Farmer 'showing off' on social media

I think the issue is subsidies & tax payers money

as I said, it’s all about public perception of agriculture
reading TFF pages, it appears as if farming already has a bad image or poor PR with the general public. There are pages & pages of it . . .

the public knows that a lot of money goes into agricultural subsidies or support or payments, rightly or wrongly.
they also hear farmers commenting on low prices, high rents / inputs, poor weather & how difficult it is.
Openly flaunting shiny expensive machinery which is worth a lot more than the average person could hope to spend, is not a good look, that’s all I’m saying

does much public money go to car enthusiasts?

THATS the issue - how it looks to the public, that is what is important if you want to keep them on your side

what anyone else does is irrelevant. . .

Average farm debt had risen to £234,400 in 2018/19

Who actually owns these shiny machines?
Are they run by contractors or farmers themselves?

How many ancillary jobs do they support?

Is UK ag paying over the odds for machines and equipment just because we get a support payment?

Of course the new toy thread is a snippet of UK ag, there are lots of farmers that haven't spent anything this year or last or the year before that

Is this true? I didn't think average debt would be that high

5.3 billion a year to railways
But that's ok because that goes to private companies that supply something that they need....oh hang on....just like food production!

Not really the same though is it? The owners of all the bus companies aren't given huge annual payments based on how big their bus garages are. Do they not have to tender for contracts?

I have changed my mind on this a little. Some people seem to be serial moaners on social media. They will moan when the police post a picture of their bmw or when an ambulance crew post a picture of them grabbing a quick coffee. Personally id stop worrying what people who comment on social media think. Id instead continue to promote UK agriculture.
I posted a safety message on a kayak page. Had one guy ask questions then answer them himself! Very strange. These are the same people that throw litter yet moan about about fly tipping. The same that moan about the country being full of foreigners yet are desperate for the kebab shop to open... Honestly. Ignore them. My new rule since lockdown. Dont take any serious notice of anyone that doesnt post under their own name... Its not worth the mental worry.

Who is it posting the shiny pictures on FB ?
Is it the farm owner, winding up rest of his ‘county set’ with a gloat about another new Fendt?
Or is it his ‘Generation Z’ employee posting a picture of said Fendt while making a ‘land speed record’ attempt, immediately prior to wrapping it around a tree?

Good job as stealth or not on here i dont give much away then eh....
Late Father used to get right hot under the collar about others & what they had that he couldnt afford etc etc etc, ive never had this approach & why worry about other folks
life is far too short for than nonsense.
A lot of us Farmers are better off than a lot of normal 9-5 working folks but we dont see it like that (of course)
but we also carry far more worry just to do what we do but rarely look for help i guess.
I dont have any monthly payments PCP or whatever you call them on fancy new cars/4x4s but do invest in the farm as i see fit.
Its better to say nowt & esp dont brag on about the subs we get as there going to change more than they ever have done soon enough & a lot of us are gonna have to change
our business models to keep farming (Lets hope all Farming Inputs follow suit thats all that concerns me)
