relief staff wages?

Aye and there is plenty or Wayne's and Johnny's about to drive flash tractors.
And they all want to pull tits as long as they come in pairs, .
Thin on the ground are good part time milkers for odd days for dairy farms,
Usually the good ones a booked up months in advance, and we'll there are others

Ours charges £15/hr or a minimum £45 per milking. The latter is annoying when we only really have her for the odd session when we are only milking about 40 cows in summer, but I fully understand why she does it.

So, I've just put an advert on Facebook for a relief milker paying £40 a milking for a MAXIMUM of 2 hours work (have stated that if it takes longer I'll pay more)
And am receiving a lot of stick for it, I've had 6 applicants so far so obviously can't be that bad

Someone is saying I need to pay £50 an hour
Others saying I should still pay £20 an hour but for 3-4 hours work instead of 2 and then only ask them to come in 4 times a week instead of 6

Bit pee'd off tbh as I thought £20 an hour minimum was a decent wage!?

Should also add that if you work hard, cows behave and aren't too far from the yard that could easily turn to over £25 an hour

Just ignore them. Not one of them will have your best interests in mind, nor will they know their ass from a hole in the ground.

It's easy to poke holes when you're miles away and your keyboard is your tractor. Work with the 6 you've got and if 2 really impress you then have both of them! I've never heard any farmer say "damn, too many good relief staff!"

Thanks everyone thought I was going nuts!
Been told Its cheeky and insulting to only offer £40

Pointed out as well, there's room for progression as we move forward. £40 would be starting wage.
Hoping to find someone fairly local who it would fit in well with their other commitments (whether that be another job/family etc)
Starting to regret posting it tbh. I genuinely don't know anyone being paid more than £15 an hour for relief milking. I know someone who put his rate up to £16 and got fired from all 3 of their jobs (1 out lizard direction, 1 penzance direction and 1 towards truro)

Needs to be £20 hour but including say 30 mins paid as well at that rate for travel.

Ie £50 milking @2 hours for the work + 30 mins travelling time.

No one can afford to pay £50 hour.

May be worth you talking to a few beef or sheep farmers son's and daughters in your local area, may work well for them doing a bit of relief milking with their current own workload.

Sounds good for someone that can work it into their schedule, which is of course the tricky bit especially afternoons.
How many milking's a week? Thinking out loud minimum wage for 18-20 year olds is less than 7 quid, could you find a youngster to take on full time and train up? You'd potentially get more work for your money.
You probably couldn't get them that cheap I know but worth thinking about if you plan to use relief staff a lot.

Advertised for 6 milkings a week £40/milking
Lots of potential for progression
I don't do a lot of shouting at people, normally inanimate objects for some reason
Cake and biscuits on tap
Good Bluetooth speaker
Wellies, overalls, waterproofs provided, looking into shirts and jumpers with the herd name on as well
Willing for milking time to be changed to suit whoever wants the job so that it can work into their schedule
Maximum 2 hours work any extra and I'll pay more
Once they've been here a year that'll go up and then reviewed annually (if cow numbers increased then it would also increase)

Would love a youngster here like me who's keen to train up and have as my right hand man going forward, looking further ahead and I've got fairly big plans (not going to say anything at this point) so to have someone I can rely on who knows how I like things done would be invaluable
