Does anyone feed their heifers TMR if so how many rations do you feed to the different ages. I'd like to feed weaning to 9m with the diet feeder to get away from chucking a lot of nuts on top of straw or silage.

We give them the milking cow TMR (M+25 litres)from about 4 months of age. Initially we top dress with the rearer nuts they were on previously and reduce this as TMR intake increases. Usually on TMR only by 6 months of age.

No a few feeding bullers and younger hfrs feeding the same ration of maize, silage and straw but cake and quantity is different for the ages in that mix. Seems awful dear to feed hfrs the milkers mix unless the cows are fed cake in the parlour

Was just looking around and found this, we're organic and I use the misery wagon to fill troughs for my bulling heifers.
They've just come off grazing fodder beet and are being AI at the moment I think they could do with a bit more energy and am thinking of getting some rolled barley to chuck in?
Good idea /bad idea?/how much for 350-400kg heifers

1-2kg won't hurt them and will certainly help increase growth rates even if it makes no difference to conception, but I'd bet it would. 3 weeks prior to ai mine get an extra half a kg until they're in calf then they get nothing until calving
