What do folks use to fatten cattle?
currently on home grown barley milled up with protein and molasses added. It works but it’s not cheap.
what does everyone else use?
KW Alternative seeds? Is there other similar companies out there selling such stuff?
or something else entirely?
cheers.
Now I know the traditional way is in tanks - which is fine until the material starts solidifying … and if you can get one handy - but has anyone tried storing liquids in a shallow purpose built lagoon from which you could bucket it out?

How do people treat/store on farm barley with home and dry?
Does treated grain go off? How quick does it need to be used by?
What moisture content does the barley need to be at prior to treatment?
Looking at buying this Kuhn 1860 mixer wagon on the cheap. The blades look just a tad worn and in the wrong place, am I right? Who can show me a picture of what they should be like please?
Just trying to work out rationing for this winter there will be a bit of a gap between the highest and lowest producers and we’ve only got batch feeders. At very least to start with we really don’t want two groups potentially be forced into it as winter progresses but would like to run as one...
We seem to go through ups on the mixer wagon way more often than we should. I tend to mix it at about 350rpm but it’s been suggested that this could be putting more strain on and we need to rev to 540rpm which seems rather excessive to me.
would running lower revs add more strain?

Kuhn is planning to add a third series of trailed mixers to the two ranges it already offers, as well as its fully automated machine.
The new machines fill the gap between its Profile S and L range of trailed mixer wagons with this new Profile M series...
Hi Any body got any tips for getting round bales hay a bit tastier for cattle, any tips for getting molasses type liquid feed in to the whole bale without using huge amounts of molasses, I have no chopper or mixer wagon, have heard pan mixers are good for small quantities, but even that is going...
Never had one before, always mixed maize and grass at the pit face with telehandler, cake fed to yield.

would now be a good time to direct drill some red and white clover into mainly silage fields cut 3-4 time a year to add some extra protein capabilities next year , added source of N and thicken the sward out a bit. also with summers becoming dryer the red should keep a needed bite with deeper...
Aquired this a couple weeks back, never had much to do with IH tractors but fancied something a bit different to the classic fergi's that I am more accustomed to. Its an ex scraper that needs plenty of work, but engine starts and runs very well.
Its an early B275, and at some point it seems to...

What's reliable and easy started, it's just to use to feed with in the summer so that the loader tractor isn't tied up and can go to other jobs easier. I know old matbro teleram 3 are old but would they still do a turn or better going never and paying finance on a jcb 310 or similar
Have just done first cut silage and with what we had left over from last year we've got enough without doing a second cut. Neighbour would like to take the second cut off it. So what's it worth per ac? They put fert on, probably get 6 weeks growth. Good rye grass/ red clover leys.
Explain please the pros and cons of crimping grain and how its done. Am in the situation where I am growing some spring wheat for the first time (grassland suckler and sheep farm). Had originally planted the wheat with the intention of wholecropping it but different people have told me I'd be...
Has anyone got any tips for crimping wheat for dairy cows. I am thinking of crimping 28 acres of winter wheat instead of making it into whole crop silage. I have another 53 acres to go in the pit and a bigger than usual heap of first cut.
I have storage in a purpose built indoor pit on a farm...
