I've always had manuals in the past but tried an automatic Hilux and was very impressed. Very smooth and nice to drive on the road.

Is anyone running a 2.8 litre auto Hilux? How are they for towing? I don't do loads of towing, but still need something that is capable.

The auto ones have more torque than a manual gearbox ones & so the pull better

I found the auto box very lazy on the one I had on demo, not the best for towing.

I was in the same boat, and always manual but this engine is brilliant with the auto. wouldn't go manual again. fuel economy is not as good but its getting better just done 1000 miles so far.
adaptive cruise control is really good.

Anyone know what the delivery time is if you place an order today? I ordered one early jan for a may /June delivery. That has now been put back to late October.... so won’t be surprised if it arrives next year.

Are the new Toyota`s like the Rangers, over weight and have to drive at wagon max speeds?

Utility ones are lighter

Blinged up invincible X are heavier

Under 2040 kgs unladen is the magic weight with regards to car speed limits or 10 mph lower commercial vehicle speed limits

It’s a bit of a grey area, I was led to believe the 2040kg was the weight limit for speed limits but some say it’s whatever is written on your V5 form, N1 is commercial so lower speed limits and if it’s and M1 is car. Most newer style double cabs are over the weight limit, only Isuzu and Mitsubishi are under now I’m led to believe.

Not a grey area at all
2040kgs or under.... unladen weight is the figure, that a Double Cab pickup, qualifies for DPV exemption - for car speed limits.
Irrespective of class N1 - commercial vehicle, on the V5c
Single or Extra Cabs don't qualify for DPV exemption, as they have not got either any rear seats or not the correct fixed seats and rear doors
Other weight double cab pickups, don't qualify as they cannot claim a DPV exemption
