Are extended warranties a con

Depends if its a manufacturer warranty, or an "insurance warranty".

The latter isn't really worth the paper its written on, IMHO.

A manufacturer backed warranty can be worth a lot. Depends on what the extra cost is...

Ok but £10 k paid to CNH might buy you a full warranty?
So many “get out clauses” in the cnh one last time we changed.

Agco one from my experience is genuinely no questions, have 2 different brands. Best thing I did was the extended warranty on our “big” tractor, saved us over £30k in repair bills in the last 2yr I bet.

Not sure how to feel about.......

AGCO were good honouring their warranty but
their new[ish] product needing £30k for repairs

The big repair on our NH at less than 5 years old would have paid for the next two extended warranties. Even after CNH helped out...

From previous experience very little to nothing is covered by the cnh extended warranty. I was told if you can’t see the failed component, ie in the engine, transmission etc that it was covered. That turned out to be incorrect as I had to pay in full for a failed bearing in the transmission.

After that I have never purchased any extended warranty from any manufacturer.

Claas Maxi Care warranty is a total waste of money, only a dealer warranty but then Claas seem to specialize in trying to walk away from a machine, extremely fond of the dyno and the laptop.

But guess any of them need to be read in detail.

I'd never purchase a NH again

I am sceptical of Insurer backed extended warranties. I had experience of the CNH one years ago and could never get a claim paid on it. Had family member though who bought 3 year old 2500hr Quadtrack that he ran to 6500 hours over 4 years and the insurance policy taken out via Pecks paid out for new gearbox (£30k plus)on one claim and some rear axle damage on another. You could not fault it, cost was around £5/hour on clock. By the time the engine failed at approaching 7000 hrs nobody would cover it!
I have thought long and hard about our business selling Insurance backed extended warranties and came to the conclusion I did not want to do so because there would be too many problems on claims.
