5k grant to insulate homes ,,to replace the windows in this house it would twice that and more and thats if it was allowed ,,G2 listed ,not allowed to use pvc or sealed unit windows ,,must be wood and single glazed ,,the windows are painted up to stop the drafts .
Cant use upvc but narrow gap sealed units are allowed, however some conservation officers say they arent, just like lots of planner officers they make it up as they go along

I think they are barking up the wrong tree with this subsidising short term to keep people in jobs. It didn’t seem a thrilling policy for businesses. I think they need to have a long think about industry in this country and how they can make it a lot more competitive in the future. Service industry is dying especially catering, international tourism etc, thatcher was revolutionary in a lot of ways as she got rid of some of the dead wood and faced a lot of stick in doing so. It needs this sort of clear thinking again. There is going to be some pain in the short term whatever they do. Big focus on skills and technical ability is needed.

Think they're hoping for a sharp rebound , there's plenty of money in this country

A lot depends on how long Covid hangs around for. I mean who would go to America right now. We seem quite dependent on leisure, tourism and catering in this country for employment.

Since the government seem happy to give up agriculture, fisheries and manufacturing for the hope of a trade deal, they need the other industries of the service economy.

I reckon a fair few people have quite a nice bit of cash saved up- no holidays, no takeaways, no pub, no gym, etc etc etc? Besides pornhub premium what is there to spend your money on?
We have saved a lot mainly because we are not commuting, other half commutes to Edinburgh (from Cumbria) and I have been furloughed from my off farm job (which was an hours drive away) since April. However, a busted fridge freezer and washing has stufffed a big hole in my idea of saving a bit. Ah well.

Well, I reckon we saw a bit of a warning shot today

next budget will be massive tax cuts .......... and if Europe don’t start talking sensibly even bigger than massive

I’ve been saying this for a couple of year now ......... welcome to tax haven UK !
More so than now me thinks?

im sure if you search back far enough on TFF to the days around the Brexit referendum I might have been suggesting the UK would likely become the worlds greatest tax haven if the EU didn’t behave themselves in negotiations

Yes, I do remember a post you made saying that.
If that's the way it does in fact go, I think it could be a good thing.
