Discs OR Tine Coulter??
We have two front hoppers and six different types of rear coulters , they all get used for different crops and conditions.How many drills have you got!!!?
Or more seriously, which worked out to be the best?

I did last year, using the weaving saber tine legs, I designed a custom frame that takes an A frame mounted accord hopper I used an indirect PTO dive for the fan as I had time constraints, and didn’t want the PTO to be a problem.Question -
With the cost and supply issues around new drills, is it possible to successfully build your own drill that can match what is currently available in the market??

I have the CAD drawings I sent to the laser cutting service onsite.
They also bent the headstock.
I would make a few tweaks now I have actually made one but only minor changes maybe push the packer further back (simple) change the top link position and the hopper a tiny bit further back.
I think I did those revisions, but the version of student CAD I used has ended so I cannnot get back into the files.
To do anything but view them now.
I managed to get the land wheel inboard and I drilled 200 acres with it, I did find you need to use very square box section for the frame with weaving legs I got around this with adding 16mm nylon rod into the area that the rubber tries to crush into by trimming the rubber block but getting a very square profile box section 80x80 x6mm would put you to standard spec to a weaving saber tine, I still think the nylon66 will help as it helps the legs bounce back to possition and I needed only 9 meters of the nylon 66 rod so £65 cost and you could use a smaller section.

everything was new in my project as it had to be for the grant, but a second hand hopper would have cut the project to well under 10k I have had it on a MF 3065 (80ph) it lifts it empty and It may do with 500kg of seed in it and it pulled it at 60mm when I was testing the modification to the legs to get around my frame rails not being super square on my build.
The packer (not the packers frame and arms) I got from the company that make ERTH drills. They shipped it to me before brexit . . .
It has 18 legs in total and is 3meters working width. And 500mm tine spacing in both directions.

You will have to find an independent company or fabrication shop to build it, my guys paid for everything but the hopper, and put it together for me, because that’s the only way that worked when I applied.
So I submitted 2 bills only, one for the hopper which was brand new via a local dealer, the other for the finished drill.
DIY is not an option, if it was I would have saved myself a lot more money.
Do you ever make your own coulters? Or are they all a pre-fabbed (eg metcalf) or a standard point from a drill?
Hi , we make our own coulters on the OSR drill and the tine drills but the combinations are on VAD coulters . You really need twin metering units on a 6M or you are very restricted on seed rate and forward speed .Do you ever make your own coulters? Also you say you have 2 hoppers for your various drills, they look like the proper job so I'm assuming no metering issues with wider drills? (I'm thinking a 4m accord style for a 6m drill but not sure if I'd need 2 for metering capacity? )

Can I pick your brain a bit on tine coulters please? Do you have any closer pictures you'd mind sharing?
Is it a simple as the relevant size round tube going into either some rectangular box or some side plates to hold the seed slot open long end for the seeds to fall?

Haha! I can't take credit for the building of it but it was built by another farmer up here. It's well thought out, scrapheap challenge at it's finest! Everything is straight and true and works very well. Even has adjustable downward pressure on the ram that lifts it up and downThis needs its own thread..
