Buy a big pig.

Surely large pig producers don’t have to account for every pig that leaves the farm. Some die of stress in the pen.
So the doors open for anyone to go and and collect their healthy pig and no paperwork necessary.

They used to chuck the dead pig one bonfire to scorch the bristles off before scraping the skin. An old boy in the village claims to have seen a "dead" pig jump squealing out of the fire on one occasion, to much amusement.
Did anyone else sit shaking their head, listening to the idiots advocating either releasing 100000 pigs into the wild, or rehoming them, on Jeremy Vine yesterday?
Release the lot on Downing Street I recon. Be a different smell of sh!t for a while.

Well, yes, we bought a big pig a couple of weeks ago to do our bit to help out.
Trouble is, it came with 7 little ones too :) .

Just wondering, as the thought has crossed my mind too get 5/6 pigs and get our local family abattoir too kill and cut up for me (no waiting list longer than normal there) and flog on half pigs too my collection of 1/2 lamb customers.
Are the big pig outfits allowed too sell to common folk? I thought some of the contracts stipulated that “all pigs must be sold too us the processor”?? The smaller units around here seem too be carrying on pretty much as normal. It’s just the massive finishing unit up the hill that’s stalled so far. 😳
The big processors are in breach o contract by not taking the pigs, which in turn are going out of spec, so you would hope common sense would apply.

You would hope so!! But these contracts seem very heavily weighted as “we the processors can change as we like but you the supplier must stick too the contract or face penalties”?
One of our friends used too supply Edwards’ at Hyde. (Now Tulip) every pig on the farm had too go straight for slaughter too them. When he had a balls up and a gilt farrowed in the fattening shed there had too be a “midnight visit” too get her away as he only had fatteners.

They would get some out for you. Buy them off them and get them to take them straight to kill at your place of choice

For some reason R4 said these pigs could not go into the food chain? Why not, I wonder?

Back when I kept "free range" pigs, the local slaughterhouse used to kill, scald (to remove the hair), and split them for me, then I'd cut them up on the kitchen floor (on newspaper, of course, full hygiene applied). Freezer packs of free range pork sold well.

Yes, I think home kill is legal and I've never understood the restrictions on using a gun. A .410 close up is efficient as anything and no restrictions that I know of. There will be other legal methods of destruction if anyone can be bothered to look them up. If they are dead, they are dead, and the law is unlikely to be an onlooker.

Offal would need to be disposed of via a legal outlet, so knackery. Unless it was a pet, when I think it might be legal to bury the entrails in your back garden, with a suitable tombstone. Maybe some enterprising person will do the same for Packham, though he really ought to be recycled.

I don’t think there is a big issue as long as it’s for home consumption, you may want to check your firearms license as I specifically requested dispatch of animals to be included on mine. Should probably go and read it again to make sure it says what I think it does!
Doesn’t need to say it with a shotgun
