Buy a big pig.

I think its a good idea, as others have said you need a CPH and to be a registered pig keeper and bringing them onto your holding creates a standstill for sheep and cattle aswell I believe.
Thing is shooting a pig in the brain with a 22 isn't as straight forward as people think, I've seen it go wrong, it's even harder to get it the second time around!
Scudding them to remove the hair isn't that bad IMO. Plenty of boiling water and some big knives.
But only direct family can legally eat your homekill

i was thinking today i could buy one and freeze it

i guess its not legal for me to shoot and butcher it myself however ?

Clive it is perfectly legal for you to kill your own pig any way that you want to.
It is actually perfectly legal to slaughter any animal as long as it is done humanely and it belongs to you. You must only use the meat for your own consumption. Hope you like sausages!!

Many years ago when we were exporting loads of animals alive into France, Holland and Belgium there was a period of time, similar to now when the pig price had been poor for Pork pigs and many decided to keep feeding them and get them into Heavy Hogs. Trouble was the market here has disappeared and the demand for them was in Europe. It still exists today.
Shipping live pigs is not very cost effective but I bet there are abattoirs in Belgium and Holland that would take these pigs at a price.

Unfortunately due to Brexit and there being no Border Control Posts this cannot happen either.

I don't think that's strictly true. I had an official here about something and mentioned in passing that I had to wring the necks of a few chickens. He mentioned that that was an authorised method of euthanasia. I'm sure I read a list of approved methods some where.

Yes, here it is:

I don’t know if it still happens, but here in France one could find a travelling butcher who would kill a pig, string it up on an apple tree to bleed it so that the women could get on and make the boudin noir while he cut and dressed the carcass. There isn’t much of a French pig that doesn’t get eaten! Andouillettes for example - an aquired taste!
