Thinking of changing a tractor for an Arion 420. Looking for oppinions / reviews of them. Is it powerfull enought to take a baler with a chopper (silage) on fairly hilly ground, and how would ot cope with a 2000 Gallon tanker? Any reliability issues? TIA

I've got a 420 on a 21 plate, first claas owned and very happy with it ( purchased a 470 last summer as well), it pulls my 2000 gallon hispec quite well and have had it on the mchale baler as well, with all the knives In on steep runs you'll be down on the gears but it pulls very well, will change it for another when I decided to swap it in.
Not had any reliable problems with it and it been my main loader tractor on a dairy unit since new

I have a Claas Arion 440. Overall it performs very well ploughing, power harrowing and towing 12 ton trailers. The adblue system has given a bit of trouble and needed the sensor replacing. Initially the tractor also had issues on the correct start up gear but this was sorted under warranty. The long wheelbase for a 4 cylinder tractor is good for balancing heavy rear implements.

I have a demo 420 with a loader on it here at the moment, and have been impressed with it, joystick for the loader is a great, shuttle silky smooth and the switches/buttons for the hydraulics very easy to operate, very tempted

We have an Arion 450. With out question the best 4cyl tractor I have driven for torque. It just hangs on in there !!

I think it would depend on the baler you’re using and how tight you like your bales as to whether it’d cope well or not. Our 2016 Claas rollant can make the 450 squirm a bit just before tripping the net !! Add some hills into the mix and you’d be well down the gears. A 420 would do the job, but slowly !!
Aside from that, we have been very pleased with the Claas, it being our first after a move from JD. As a loader tractor it is excellent with superb weight distribution.
We have the panoramic cab which is great.

only things I’m not keen on are the gear selector roll switch ( which will change range if pushed too hard - and I tend to be a bit heavy handed !) and the air conditioning which is not a patch on the JD. ( although it is just about adequate most days )

not a fan of a standard handbrake either having come from JD, but that’s just personal preference.

the Claas front axle suspension is also well worth having if you can stretch to it.
