EU criminals have Assault Rifles and Machine guns. If criminals can land 1,000s of criminals on boats they can land a howitzer never mind a pistol.

I think a lot of people would crap bricks if they had even half an idea as to what finds it's way to the UK. Only last week the Met nabbed an AK with a load of ammo, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

At the end of the day if you hold a gun licence you know what guns you can legally buy and use it's the crooks who buy the illegal stuff and high powered weapon

I recall one of the police firearms inspectors telling me several years ago now that she did an inspection of a house for some ones firearms certificate. She felt something was not right and got a search warrant. On searching the house they found, besides the legally held guns, a load of guns hidden in the loft that were not held legally and did not appear on the FAC holders certificate.

The local news keep referring to the perpetrator having a FAC, surely for a pump action shotgun it would just be a shotgun certificate.

No. A section2 (shotgun certificate) shotgun can hold a maximum of 3 cartridges (1 chambered and 2 in the NON REMOVABLE magazine).

If the shotgun holds more than 2 in the magazine - or the magazine can be removed - then it is a section1 firearms and is treated the same as a rifle

Interesting to read your chat about shotgun and firearm certificates. In Northern Ireland, shotguns are on the same license as rifles.

During the troubles, when a lot of gun crime took place, the guns were - surprise, surprise - illegal weapons like AKs smuggled in from libya and the US etc Occasionally legal gun owners were robbed of their weapons, but I don't think that made up much of the problem.
I don't know what the system is in England, but there is a requirement for me to provide reasonable justification for owning a .308 bolt action. They won't grant them to just anyone.

Wonder if it will get to the point where wanting a shotgun to shoot a few clays won’t be justification to own a shotgun, this nutcase from Plymouth doesn’t strike me as someone who would have a few 100 bird days a year or help the local farmer keep pigeons off his prized pea crop.

It would be interesting to know his justification for holding a gun license.

If you want to get a gun ,whatever type , you will manage to get one . Not having a license won't stop you. . If anyone thinks making gun laws tighter will stop this type of thing then they need to get in the real world .
Its not right but its the way it is .

I think that's nonsense. Look at the disparity in gun crime between the UK and the USA.

sounds to me like someone didn't do their job right. ive read reports that the guy had been referred to for a mental assessment. so either the NHS failed or the firearms officer failed. but you just know the pass the blame on to all firearm owners.

also why are people not talking about INCEL, a group of sick men who blame women cause they do dam ugly to pull women, who seem to be the one responsible for warping this guys mind

I don't think responsible firearm users are getting the blame??

And all I have heard about since the event is about the Incel subculture. BBC news has pages on it and they talked about it on R4 yesterday.

I think gun laws are as tight as they reasonably can be. Plod can’t really be expected to keep tabs on everyone who owns guns to try and prevent this kind of thing happening, it’s really the responsibility of all of us to alert authorities to individuals of concern.

Trouble is, in this case it looks like they were, his guns were confiscated in December then he got them back. A quick check of the guy’s social media accounts which would take all of 15 minutes would have quickly determined he was not fit to hold a firearm.

How would they know which Social Media Accounts to check? For all anyone knows, I could be Prince Charles and @Bald Rick Lady Camilla!

There is a farmer on the Denbigh moors who had to given up his guns, he got into a spat with a ex Londoner living on the moors who accessed the farmer off threatening to shoot him, police got involved and as a result of an investigation the farmer's gun licence was revoked.

Well in this case they were alerted by his concerned family after a physical assault which took place, so I’m sure they could have pointed them in the right direction. He had his own YouTube channel which was full of his rantings. It’s really not difficult to find somebody on social media.
