A farmer grows 100 acres of wheat.
She feeds all of her wheat to her broiler chickens.
She sells all of her broiler chickens to supply a Local Education Authority contract.

By how much does the price of a chicken need to rise to compensate for her loss of BPS ?
Show your workings.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but I lost my subsidy in 2005.
Any road up, chicken feed these days is a complicated blend of probably 20 different ingredients.
Any road up #2, Do you include the cost of a multi million pound slaughter/ packhouse ?

I am off to the staffroom for a bit, you have given me a headache. Just do your best with the information available. For the purposes of the exercise you can assume that all other variables, beyond the loss of BPS, remain the same.

well if you say wheat is £170/t,,,,3t/ac.....bps £81 (for ease).....so £27t extra......so wheat is £197...bugger it say £200

chicken converts at 2 to 1......so 300t of wheat producers 150t of chicken

so 300t wheat @ £200/t.....£60k....therefore 150t of chicken at £4/kg covers it

plus chick + rearing costs ect

oh and RT parasite money
At least you tried . (y)

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
