Probably lost count the amount of ‘down cow’ threads on here. But abyway, experience tells me I’m wasting my time, but a cow that had her 9th calve 2 days ago went wobbly this morning, had calcium when she calved. Put her in a pen and gave her foston and antiflamitory, went back she’s flat out. Not getting up and being a c***. Pumped her with water just there. Anything else that could be wrong? She was going about fine this morning! Gave 17 litres this morning can’t bloody believe she’s down ?????

Did she get calcium because she had milk fever or as a precaution? In the vein or under the skin?

Could also be a twisted stomach.

Gave her calcium as a precaution 2 days ago. Wasn’t like chewing her cud 4 hours ago but pumped her and gave her 2 more bottles of calcium so il try lifting her tonight. Didn’t give her calcium this morning as I thought she wouldn’t need it as she already had her bottles! I put it down to phosphorus but maybe should have given her it anyway. She’s not flat out now, chewing her cud but not keen to eat.

Not ecoli, checked that when noticed she wasn’t right. Going forward, I’m thinking the dry cows are needing the magnesium crystals, we feed round bales how would I give it to them? Would they eat it from a bucket? Just sprinkle it over the bale?

why mag? was she a bit nutty/twitchy/eyeballing you before she went down?

Currently standing on her own with the lifter loose. Not giving up on this old bugger yet. if she recovers she’s going absolutely nowhere near a bull!!!!!!!!!!!
Re mag flakes, we feed 150grms/head/day but it's in a mix. Water system seems the most logical route to try as least cost, either put 150grns)head into troughs daily or drop a full unopened bag in the trough with a few pin holes all over the bag to let the mag out, the downside is it may make the water less palatable

We don’t have water troughs ! Just a water bowl, too awkward in our dry cow pen for a water trough. Then again everything’s awkward around here ?

It was more milk fever, those bottles 2 days ago long gone. Does she have the S shaped neck?
Probably too late, but give her 2 bottles of calcium in the vein and one under the skin.
Get her lifted ASAP
