Factor Tractors Pontefract, any experiences?

It makes one wonder as to just how many people are robbed by such bogus sites in the UK alone every week. Also just why the victims became victims when, to most people, such scams are fairly if not glaringly obvious and there should be plenty of opportunity to check them out and become suspicious before parting with a single penny.

Someone I know was caught, sent a lot of money for a JCB teletruk.

He never saw any of that again, he's a clever fella that runs a successful business.

In a previous life I saved a dealer from being scammed out of about £14k on an apparent overpayment that the buyer requested to be reimbursed so they could send the correct amount. I put the brake firmly on the reimbursement and sure enough the original payment disappeared from the dealer’s bank account within two or three days, after increasingly desperate pleas from the scammer for the dealer’s genuine money to be transferred to them. It was extremely lucky that I was in the office that day. I believe that at least one neighbouring dealer was caught by this scam.
So it’s not just farmers that these scammers target. Everyone everywhere is regularly subject to scamming attempts these days, from being phoned by people pretending to be from BT to anything you have yet to imagine.

Well, whoever it was , and wherever it was from ,got very short shrift from me . Does Devils advocate speak with a decided Jim Davidson Chalky accent ? Sometimes if I'm a bit benevolent , I'll give them a quick "bravo oscar " a bit less benevolent and it's a "papa oscar" , and if I'm having not the best of days, a very firm "Foxtrot oscar " Seems to work , but they must be chosen for very thick skins .

Trouble is most of the time its greed on the buyers behalf.

No doubt I'll get some slating for this but people can't resist buying something if they think its for bugger all. A tractor I sold a scammer copied and it re appeared on Facebook. I tried to warn a bloke but he wasn't having none of it saying how genuine it sounded. In the end I gave up and told him to crack on

I'm sorry but if you open your eyes its bloody obvious!

I should have made it more obvious that I was trying to be funny. In all fairness it is one of the more professional scam websites I've seen.

Sorry I normally think the ... at the end gives it away. I'm definitely not serious! 😎

Those three little dots are called an ellipsis (plural: ellipses). The term ellipsis comes from the Greek word meaning “omission,” and that's just what an ellipsis does—it shows that something has been left out.

But we're in the game. We know roughly what things should be worth. We have an inkling about specs ( Euro or USA specs etc ). We are familiar with pics from larger dealers yards. Someone who's just bought a small holding might not have this knowledge. They may feel a 30 year old tractor that's priced at £5k is fair ( a car that age would be £300 ).
If it's not from an established dealer, you should go and have a look however. Probably best to stick to local dealers too.
Some harsh comments on this thread.
