Why don’t you put a proper engine on like Kawasaki or Honda? As soon as you see briggs vanguard You immediately think it’s a hobby machine
Hi Dave, the Vanguard is a commercial spec and is the most common engine used on this sort of machine

We recently purchased an MDL 120 atv mower. cheap inexpensive for the job its required to do, a couple of things though, no emergency stop button fitted or remote engine control easy to do though, the steelwork is quite decent as for the bearings they are greaseable I have changed out the grease for a known non chinese grease ! it has 3 drive belts they are available from our local drive train supplier, the centrifugal clutch was very noisy when engaging at first but seems to have settled down.
It is fitted with a 420cc Loncin petrol engine , this was the decider for Me I have other equipment using this engine and with proper maintenance they have proven proved to be reliable. The bonus with this engine is that its a Honda clone and will accept honda parts,
point in question due to "operator error"* the exhaust clipped a tree and snapped the cast exhaust pie to silencer. I was quoted a price from the supplier, but was able to purchase a replacement for less than a quarter of the price and quoting the honda part number.
A couple of jobs to be done , until warranty expires , protection for the exhaust after that I would consider moving the engine to the centreline to improve balance , its a bit side heavy and noticeable on slopes, simple enough.
In use it performs reasonably well once set up and if you keep the speed down.

*herself not taking into account the offset and iPod up full blast.
