Hail storms

When I last insured it was 2% premium with nfu for rape so 1 in 50 years claim
now have no rape because of pests

If we do grow it we will insure if it is in one block

one farm I know has been hit several times in the last 40 years

5 minutes of hail yesterday, approximately the size of chocolate coated raisins. 100 ac of previously excellent OSR now between 30-50% on the floor

Got a bit of damage on a block yesterday 5pm ish. Neighbour unfortunately seems to have fared worse.

Ours is nowhere near like these photos are showing thankfully. 15mm in 15 minutes-thankfully with only hail amongst it in places.

Big sympathies to all who have suffered damage from hail. Seeing white fields of OSR was always one of my biggest nightmares when farming in France. Used to cost around £15/acre there to Insure but did include storm and flood damage which UK policies do not. I always insured OSR against it but never claimed. Cost is much less for Insurance in UK but only covers hail. Probably less than 5% of people insure against it. I have seen premiums this year of around £1 /acre for wheat/barley and beans and £3/acre for OSR. But these figures have only come from Farm Insurers who already insure that farms buildings, crops, liability etc. We have nobody at moment offering cover on a stand alone basis. NFU always generally been more expensive for hail- is this because they do more of it and see more claims??? It is probably an area of cover we will highlight more to farms in future as not expensive. When you are desiccating rape if it was another £3/acre to add a product to tank that protected against hail then you wouldnt think twice about it.
We have a number of claims on OSR & Wheat already plus fair few for damage to roof lights on buildings, few solar panels and a number of vehicles with dented bonnets and roofs. Sun only please for the next 6 weeks!
