I’ve messaged the guy from Scanpole and suggested he comes on here to answer any questions on their products. I like the look of them.

How much (approx) would a 150 metre straight line of clipex be supplied and installed against wooden posts? Stock wire and 1 strand of plain HT.

If you use clipex do you then use steel gate posts instead of wooden?

I’ve only two wood gates on the farm I don’t like them.

What is the ball park price on creosoted then and do they use the same timber as non or is it better. Surely there should be some sort of quality control on this rubbish stuff.
I can't recall exactly, but I reckon 5'6" 3-4" rounds would be circa £3.75-£4 plus vat yere.
Timber seems to be pretty good, although for the gozillionth time....effective treatment will preserve pretty much anything.
'rubbish' timber quotes are often bandied here by a member with a passionate hatred of sitka plantations.

Sitka doesn't easily take treatment, while pine does. Larch and D Fir heartwood doesn't take treatment, but is variably durable anyway.
The sapwood of both take treatment under correct procedures.
Western Red Cedar heartwood won't take treatment, but is very very durable in itself. sapwood takes treatment freely...both aren't very strong.

PuGs acacia sounds the bizz...get an artic running over here! (and since I've got my anarak on....Froggie oak doesn't strike me as having the same level of tannin in it as UK. P'haps thats the issue?

Ok, so where does one buy genuine creosote and how do you use it for real results? Sit the posts in the liquid for how long?

go to one of the few plants who're pressure treating...same process as the water based tanalising as far as I know.
Batsford timber were using one of the Longleat plants on it, and there's a crew in South Wales on it.
Another i believe mid East coast ...humberside or such?

We had 400ltrs of proper creosote from Fence and Forget a few years ago. Really good to soak in. Had a drum from another supplier later which didn't smell like the real stuff and didn't soak in either.
