The first line is the max gross weight of vehicle
Second line is the max gross train weight
Line 3 with the 1 at front is axle number 1
Line 4 with the 2 at the front is axle number 2

Haven't you answered your own question? Line 2 minus line 1
Line 2 is the max train weight permissible, agreed on that
Line one is also the max gross weight of vehicle permissible, I agreed on that,
So what is the kerbside weight of the vehicle, unladen, but full of fuel and driver,
It is very unlikely to be line 1, and I would say a bit less, but without weighing it, how do we know ?
And the lighter it is the more the trailer can carry, is it not ?

I'm not sure but I think gross train weight minus the gross vehicle weight is correct way to work out towing capacity don't think it matters whether you tow a trailer with a empty vehicle

Once your 70, you have to renew your drivers license, simple fill in a form and send it off, and renewed for 3 years,
However someone of that age group and has passed their car test prior to 1997 (i think), will have a trailer license and a 107 restriction, the 107 restriction eans you can drive a lorry up to 7.500kg gross, and pull a trailer up to 750kg, meaning yes an old license can go to 8.250kg train weight and be legal,
BUT you must fill in a form and tell DVLA you want to keep the trailer and 107 restriction as well, if you don't, then you loss that entitlement automatically by default,
And your new license will only be a B licence, no +E
Yes. I help my father do this at 70. It means he kept 7.5t entitlement

I don't think that is right, as with most (if not all) pickups, when towing full towing capacity it reduces the payload you can carry in the back due to the gross train weight being the limiting factor. :scratchhead:

But if you're taking mam vehicle weight away from mam train weight to give you towing capacity payload won't lower towing capacity cause you've calculated on mam vehicle weight at the beginning

As above. The towing capacity is calculated on the difference between max permissible vehicle weight and GTW. End of...
It doesn't matter if the actual vehicle weight is less than the max allowed or not.

so why does the ford ranger tecnical specs show that a ranger has a GVM of 3270kg, a GTM of 6000kg and a max towing weight of 3500kg.

:scratchhead:Why not have a go?

The GVM is the fully loaded vehicle, an 'empty' vehicle [mass in service driver and fuel ] is obviously less, so that is where the towing calculations will change.
Gross train weight is the limit of the law, but the load can be distributed between the vehicle and trailer.

you have a truck its g.v.w. is 3t its u.l.w is 2t leaves you with a 1 t payload
its g.t.w or its g.c.w is 5t
your trailer weighs 1t
so you can tow 3t or if you put 1t in the truck you can tow 2 t but your payload is minus your u.l.w 's
in this example your payload is 2t you can split this between the 2 or all on the trailer but obviously not all in the truck

No, as courier says above, I would need to go through the hgv medical and I didn't reckon I needed that that badly.
I had to give up driving the scout minibus.

I have no insight into the way you've lost +E entitlement, but it would be worth looking into what he describes if you want to regain it.

Otherwise you have B licence presumably still, else you wouldn't be driving a car.
As a minimum with a B licence you can tow an unbraked or braked trailer with a plated MAM of up to (but not more than) 750kg. Would that be enough, or would you want more? If you do, what's your towing car and what's its MAM?
