Legal towing weight for Jeep and 3 Axel Trailer

I have no insight into the way you've lost +E entitlement, but it would be worth looking into what he describes if you want to regain it.

Otherwise you have B licence presumably still, else you wouldn't be driving a car.
As a minimum with a B licence you can tow an unbraked or braked trailer with a plated MAM of up to (but not more than) 750kg. Would that be enough, or would you want more? If you do, what's your towing car and what's its MAM?
I went and had another look at it and I do have the B+E which I think entitles me to 3500kg total van and trailer.
However, the Vivaro is rated at 4770kg, can I load that up to the marks or only up to3.5?

If you have B+E, you can tow to the limit of the van and/or trailers. That’s what I have for towing 3.5t behind my landrover and is the “normal” licence for older people. No idea what tow weight is for the vivaro, but should be easy enough to check.

No need to worry about total MAM.

All Vivaro towing limits seem to be 2000. Gross payload varies from 1100 to 1200.
Why do you say to ignore MAM?

Ignore the totalled MAM - the requirement for MAM of trailer plus MAM of truck to equal less than 3500kg applies to B holders but not B+E.

So you as a B+E holder can tow any trailer you like and don't have to worry about plated numbers on the trailer (subject to not exceeding them, of course). You don't want to be over 2000kg trailer weight with that truck, but if you borrow a bigger truck you can go to 3500kg.

That's pretty much how I understand it too, altho am I right in thinking there is an upper limit of 7.5ton on the total weight of the combo?, so don't go borrowing a small lorry to tow the trailer!

So when people talk about the Defender having a 3500kg rating, it means that the trailer and its payload can be 3500kg?
I thought the limit included the Defender.
Goodness no! Yes, the trailer and payload is limited to 3.5 tons. The LR itself can weigh up to two tons unladen so if the total for it and a trailer, a trailer which might weigh about a ton unladen, was only 3.5 tons, that would only leave half a ton for the trailer's payload, which is less than your average cow.

I think I've got it now but I have been labouring under a misapprehension for years. A bear of very little brain!!
